Of course, Christmas season is...
by smoox
Of course, Christmas season is also the season for an ancient Nuremberg delicacy, the Lebkuchen (gingerbread). Nuremberg gingerbread, together with a cup of Glühwein (hot, spicy red wine) is just the right thing when strolling over the market on a cold December night.
Central monument
by leics
Its full title is 'Central Monument to Escape and Expulsion 1945'.
It would be very, very easy to pass by without realising its significance. There is an information board (see photo), in English and in German, which explains.
Created by Joachim Bandau and in lace since 1999, the solid copper gate is 'a sign of hope, a reminder of life regained and a positive perspective on the future'. There is also a solid copper plate on the ground.
You'll find it at the side of the Mauthalle, on Konigstrasse.
Ice Cafe
by antistar about Eiscafe-Pizzeria Roma
Nuremberg is filled with Eis Cafes. I was there on a hot day and walked for an hour in search of a place selling bottles of water, but to no avail. However, I saw street after street filled with blasted Eis Cafes. I stopped in on this Eiscafe-Pizzaria combo to glug down as much overpriced liquid as possible and grab a snack. The location is nice, if you can get a seat by the river, but the service is slow and the food only so-so. They have a large menu of Italian food, and a good selection of ice creams, which I didn't try.
St. Lorenz church
by german_eagle
St. Lorenz is the largest and most important church of Nürnberg. It was built in 13th – 15th century in gothic style. From outside the Western façade is the highlight. Inside you find numerous masterpieces of art work: The carved “Engelsgruss” by Veit Stoss, the tabernacle by Adam Kraft, the crucifix of Veit Stoss, the stained glass windows and some altars to name only a few. Please see my travelogue as well.
Beautiful Fountain 2
by Travelchili
There is a golden ring in the railings of the beautiful fountain and it is believed that if you turn in three times, your wishes will come true. I turned the ring on my last trip, but my wish hasn't come true yet - but will it?
