I have stayed in the Burghotel Stamm which was great (details on my Nürnberg page) and convenient for the main square. Lots might of course already be fully booked in which case you can just google the local tourist office which has an excellent hotel database.

Hey there,
you can find a wide range of accomodation for your stay here in Nürnberg. Forget about the YHI at the Kaiserburg if you're older than 28 ... we're in Bavaria here, and some people think, that YOUTH hostels should be accomodated by YOUTHS only. Well well ... not my opinion. No prob if you come with your family.
Maybe you describe a little more precisely what kind of acco you're looking for, so we might help you out with that.
A good tip is always the independent hostel 'Lette Me Sleep'.
Besides ... due to the VERY warm weather these days, there should be no problem to find a hotel currently, as no-one is really in x-mas-mood here.
Good luck,
Anna
Check my Nürnberg-pages for further tips on the city, am currently updating a lot!
Travel Tips for Nürnberg
Every day at noon,...
by smoox
Every day at noon, Frauenkirche offers a special attraction: The 'Männleinlaufen'. The big clock strikes twelve, and up on the front facade a little gate will open and figures will start moving, accompanied by the high sounds of bells. Have your camera ready.
Flood markers
by leics
It's pretty obvious that the River Pegnitz would be able to flood much of the very centre of Nurnburg.
And it has done, on many occasions in the past.
You can see markers which indicate floodwater levels on the side of a building just over the Fleischbrucke. They are a bit hidden (by the outside tables/parasols of the cafe) so are easy to miss.
The highest level recorded was in 1909.
Look for the markers on Hauptmarkt 3
Not just for visitors.......
by leics about Bratwurst Roslein
Yes, it's just off the Hauptmarkt in the most historic area of Nurnburg, on the way up to the Kaiserberg.
Yes, it's big and obviously aimed at tourists...menus are in French and English as well as German.
But it's also popular with locals as a reasonably-priced place to eat good, basic regional food with good beer.
So I ate there as well. I had rather lovely slcies of roast pork in an onion gravy, with a dumpling. I don't know exactly what I had.....I forgot to take a photo of the menu!
The pork was scrummy and so was the gravy, but the dumpling just did not appeal. There was some ingredient/taste which did not appeal to me, as simple as that: the dumpling itself was perfectly ok.
If you want somewhere to eat Bavarian food (they do chips and things as well), right in the centre of the city (in front of the Rathaus), at reasonable prices, then you could do worse than try Bratwurst Roslein. Menus are on their website.
Christkindlmarkt
by ahoerner
Before Christmas, during November and December, one of the most traditional Christmas Street Markets in Germany is open in Nuernberg.
I went there on beginning of November with my classmates from the University and we had a great time tasting specialities, buying marzipan or simply walking on older Nuernberg.
Take a one-day trip if you have time.
Mauthalle
by Carletto76
This was the former customs house, built in the 16th when the inner Frauentor was demolished. It was the largest granary of the city too, which supplied food for difficult periods.
From the end of the 16th century to the end of the 19th it was used as a customs house, and its name belongs to this period (maut=toll).
It was restored in the 50s, after the WWII bombings, and now, in the impressive cellar, it hosts the most famous beer hall of Nürnberg, the Barfüßer (see restaurant tips).
