Indian restaurant

by srivastava

Can anyone suggest me addresses if India restaurants in Nurnberg? Are Nurnberg and Nueremberg the same place or different?

Re: Indian restaurant

From a mere hearsay I could suggest the Lakshay:
http://www.lakshay.de/

And yes, Nürnberg, Nuremberg and Nuremburg are one and the same city, just like Heidelburg and Highdelbrrgh are actually one and the same city of Heidelberg.

Nuremberg is the English name for Nürnberg (which can be written if ü is not available also as Nuernberg).

Like with Cologne or Munich, the English name Nuremberg is closer to the old name (oldest known version is "Nuorenberc") than the modern German version.

Visit the Zoo (In the old stone-area wherefrom the sandstones are broken to build the castle and the old houses)! It´s Europes most beautiful animal garden, very large, natural places and enough place for them!!! And watch dolphins inside the Delphinarium ! www.nuernberg.de

Site of the former main Synagogue

by Nemorino

This monument marks the location of the former main Synagogue of Nürnberg, on the Pegnitz River at Hans-Sachs-Platz.

The Synagogue was built here in 1874 and was destroyed by the Nazis in October 1938, even before their nationwide pogrom and terror night on November 9, 1938.

Charming atmosphere

by bobloncar about Nassauer Keller

Nassauer Keller is a 'must' if you're in Nurnberg. From the outside it doesn't really look like a restaurant. After walking through the doors, you walk down a long, narrow, medieval stairway. It ranges in price from very affordable to outrageously expensive. I'd recommend dressing nicely, even though I don't think there's a dress code. The filet-mignon is absolutely delicious and I'd have to say it was the best I've ever had! It's pretty pricy though (much more than it would be in the U.S.) but I'm not sure exactly how much. Be advised that they cook it medium-rare unless you specify otherwise. If you're on a tighter budget you can get a nice bratwurst meal for under 10 euros (i think).

Altstadt

by Carletto76

It's very easy to find Nürnberg's old town, or Altstadt in German, since it's all rounded by the old stone city walls. There are 4 main gate towers (Tor) approximately at the four corners of the old town, from which you can enter the city, also by car.

In the middle of the Old Town, flowing east to west, is the river Pegnitz, which divides the old town in 2 equal halves. There are many bridges over it and also 2 small islands

The original city walls were guarded by 46 fortified towers, and were 5 km long. The gates were 5. It took more than 50 years to restore and partially rebuild all the stadtmauer, including 4 of the 5 gates, of which the Königstor (Kings's Gate) is probably the fist one everyone sees, just going out of the Hauptbahnhof.

frauenkirche

by doug48

the frauenkirche, ( church of our lady) was built in the 14 th century. at noon each day mechanical figures act out the story of the golden bull of 1356. inside the church is the 1440 tucher alter. this church is located on the hauptmarkt in the center of old nuremberg. during the years of the third reich the hauptmarkt was called adolf hitler platz. it was here that hitler reviewed his political organizations during the nuremberg party rallies. to see before and after pictures of the hauptmarkt visit www.thirdreichruins.com
