Schärding - 10km south of Passau

by globetrott

The small Austrian town of Schärding is another interesting place closeby Passau.Schärding is mainly famous for its lovely baroque townsquare and beautiful church.
Schärding is directely at the border between Austria and Germany, where the river Inn makes the borderline south of Passau.
Cick on my picture and see the row of clorful baroque buildings on the main square of Schärding / Schaerding !

Mid day Organ recital.

by dabidc

I was pleasantly surprised to find an Organ recital about to start, so I sat in an upper gallery and enjoyed a concert around the noon hour.

The information I recall is that the Organ is one of the largest, if not the the largest in the world. I cannot quote the number of pipes, I can say that the pieces played resounded through the church and could literally be felt as well as heard.

The Ortenburg chapel / Kapelle

by globetrott

The Ortenburg chapel / Kapelle is the oldest of all these chapels, dating back to the year 1155.
It is the tomb of the family of count / Graf von Ortenburg, who were buried here between 1186 and 1568.
The sarcophag on my picture is the one of Graf Heinrich IV, who died in 1395 and his wife Agnes, who died in 1392.
