In early July of 2007 my wife and I will travel between Passau and Prague on a Saturday. The train options I have seen for this trip are not great (all day with late night arrival in Prague). Any body have other suggestions (intercity bus, car rental, etc.)?
Europcar is 300 euros one way/one day with fees and taxes.
A better alternative is discoverczech.com who can arrange a driver to pick up 1-4 passengers in Passau and drive them to your hotel in Prague for approx. 265 euros. Still costly, but a lot more convenient!

There are three rivers that join in Passau: Donau (Danube), Inn and Ilz. From the fortress, you have a great view on the conjuction point. Normally you can see the different colours of the rivers, but we've been there during floods and all rivers were just brown and you could only see than the Inn was faster! Also, we couldn't go to the conjuction point in the old town because it was under water, but I'm sure that it's a nice place!
Passauer Glasmuseum
This area is wellkown for it's glassworks. Many different forms of glass art can be seen in this are and especially in this museum.

Passau is known as the place where three rivers meet - but it has so much more then that to offer. It is a perfect long weekend getaway with so much to see that you will be kept busy the entire time.
Located on the Gernan/Austrian border it is close to major cities in both countries.
Although long a popular stop for the cruise ships on the Danube and the bicycle tourist - it is now attracting people who spend more then just one day here - but at the same time it has not been overrun yet.
