Castle hotels in Germany
I have seen a web site for Castle Hotels in Germany, and would like to know if anyone has stayed in one of them, and if so, what was your impression. Are they hokey tourist traps? or nice hotels with some extra history? We will be visiting Germany in June and July, along with our teenage child. I am particularly interested in castle hotels in Bavaria (Castle Veldenstein at Neuhaus, or Schloss Eggersberg at Riedenburg, or any others in Bavaria), but would also consider others within 3 or 4 hours of Frankfurt. Thanks!

I've stayed in a German castle and had a wonderful time! We were actually trying to stay at Schloss Veldenstein, but they were fully booked. We ended up at Schloss Schwalenberg instead. It was a nice enough time...the decorations were a little shabby and dusty, but hey, it was an old castle! I recommend a stay, for sure. We went into the north, and you could tell that they hadn't ever seen many Americans. Bavaria is a great area to stay in and tour. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Good luck,

Hi,
I have no direct experience,but I just came across a youth hostel operating in a castle!It is on the bank of Rhine in a town called Bacharach(quite picturesque one accodring to many VT members who have been there..).It may be a low cost alternative to your castle dream:)
Try searching for Bacharach in German Youth Hostel Association's website...
