RATSTRINKSTUBE - COUNCIL TAVERN by LoriPori
The Tourist Information Center (Tourismus) is located at Markstpatz 2 in the RATSTRINKSTUBE or Council Tavern building. Here you can get information and brochures about Rothenburg, make room reservations and arrange guided tours. The building contains a clock which re-enacts daily, the historic "meistertrunk". According to legend, the meistertrunk commemorates the 1631 event when the walled town was under siege by the Imperial forces of Count Tilly. On a lark, Count Tilly told the city that he would spare them if anyone could drink a tankard containing a gallon of wine in one draught. Mayor Nusch took the challenge. He was successful and the town was saved,
