Munich - Rothenburg by bus

by ermadi

Hi!

I'm visiting Rothenburg ob der Tauber this summer but, unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to spend there. I am travelling from Munich, being 3 hours by train with 2 or 3 changes. Could you please tell me if travelling by bus is worth?

Thanks a lot!

Fernando

RE: Munich - Rothenburg by bus

What bus?

http://www.romanticroadcoach.de
Munich dep. 08:15
Rothenburg arr. 17:10
(travelling along the Romantic Road)

Munich to Rothenburg by car (not bus) needs 2,5 hours. Plus the risk of traffic jams. Thus 3 hours by train is not bad, considering that Rothenburg ob der Tauber is quite remote. For a day trip it's indeed a bit far.

A medieval city much closer to Munich: Landshut

45-50 min

Travel Tips for Rothenburg ob der Tauber

ROEDER GATE - RODETOR - circa1380

by LoriPori

Walking from our Hotel for about fifteen minutes, the very first thing we saw was the ROEDER GATE or RODETOR ( circa 1380 ). You enter Rothenburg ob der Tauber from the east through this Gate. It was formerly a toll gate with sentry houses on the sides. As the main entrance is for cars, pedestrians have a walkway to the left of the Gate. You will also see the bridge over a moat and the Roder Tower which is open daily to allow a climb up the stairs for a vista of the town.

RATHAUSTURM

by LoriPori

You have great views of the town from the 50 metre ( 165 feet ) high RATHAUSTURM - the Tower of the Gothic Town Hall or RATHAUS located on Herrngasse. There is a small fee to go up there. Hans zoomed in with his video camera and got these terrific pics of people up on the tower.

Electricity !

by lostsooner55

Many questions are posted in the forums regarding the usage of laptop computers and personal appliances such as hairdryers and shavers when travelling abroad. A good general information site on how to safely operate these items in such circumstances is : www.kropla.com/electric.htm. The site mentions converters, transformers, how to check your laptop for adaptability, and has a listing of the power ratings for many countries, and the different outlets you may encounter in your travels. This site is also referenced in Fodor's Online Travel Resource Guide. An additional step you can take to ensure safe, damage-free operation of your appliances while abroad is to become familiar with such information in your owners manual. You can also check with your hotels, (etc), to see if they have rooms where no conversion will be needed, or if they provide such things as hairdryers and small irons in their rooms, or have them available. Many lodgings in touristy, resort, or business travel areas provide such things for their visitors

The Romantische Strasse

by sim1

In March 2002 I did a small part of the Romantische Strasse. This page is part of that route. The Romantische Strasse is a beautiful route through the south of Germany, between Würzburg and Füssen. On the map you can see where the Romantische Strasse exactly is. My travelpages about this beautiful route in the south of Germany are : Rothenburg, Dinkelsbuhl, Nördlingen and Füssen

But besides these villages/cities, there are a lot more gorgeous places along the romantische strasse.
Here is an overview of all these cities, with links to the several websites.

Walk the wall

by va8eha

Walking around the city via its wall is a good way to take a break from shopping/being a tourist and get an overview of the town. There were many good photo opportunities and, since it was drizzling, it was a good way to stay dry for a while.
