GOOD HOTEL
We stayed at the Hotel Merian at Rothenburg. The Hotel, is painted green, so you can't miss it! It is located just outside the City gate's. We didn't mind this at all, you could either walk or take the car into "old" Rothenburg.
Our room was on the first floor and was a good size. It had heating/air con, free Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, Alarm Clock our own shower and Toilet, a Lounge setting and a Balcony. Free parking. Breakfast was included in the price and good, and there was tea & coffee making facilities in our room. There was an elevator to take us up to our room. The Hotel seemed quite popular with Business people.
It is a 2-minute walk from the train station and a 10-minute walk from the Old Town.

I've heard about the Europabus that goes on the Romantic Road. Has anyone travelled on it? Does it stop and various destinations so you can browser for a bit and then catch a later one onwards?
RE: How to get to To Rothenburg from Munich?

No. It makes only sense to use this bus if you plan to go to a place not served by train and stay there for at least a day.

Keep in mind that the Romantic Road connects in first place romantic places. The road is such is not that romantic. Certainly not by bus (by bicycle it's something different).
If you don't have time to stop (and with the bus you don't have), it's better to travel by train either to Füssen - the end of the Romantic Road. Or to Munich. And spent the time saved in romantic Rothenburg ob der Tauber or the destinations.

Hello,
If you are interested in being able to stop and explore I would suggest to rent a car.. Driving in Germany is very easy and fun. A car gives you a lot of freedom. It doesnt cost that much and you can reserve one before you go. There are great maps available for Germany and all roads are clearly marked.
Travel Tips for Rothenburg ob der Tauber
View of the City
by Nexus7
This is a view of the city. You can see the church of the town quite easily. This is Bavaria so it is a Catholic Church. Other taller buildings were most likely the rathaus or town hall. Everything else is under the height of the wall.
Rothenburg - a tourist-trap of the lovely kind
by globetrott
On my picture you may see Weinhaus Nusch on the right and Sieber-Turm, the tower that almost every tourist takes a picture of from the other side, in combination with the famous view from Ploelein. In my opinion it certainly makes sense to walk through it and explore also the rest of the street towards Spitalbastei. Take a walk through town and you will see so plenty of souvenir-shops... ...and of course a place like this is mostly tourist-orientated, but I think here it is made in a soft and nice way, you will not feel ripped off like in Disney-world Paris, where your bags will be searched for picknick, you might take with you instead of going to their restaurants...
Packing...
by CandS
We did a day trip from Munich to Rothenburg so instead of taking our big backpacks we just took a small day pack. It came in handy after we did some shopping in the city... ;) Good walking shoes are a must...you will have to walk everywhere while in Rothenburg...it's the best way to see the city anyway... :)
Indonesian food in Rothenburg?
by wildstrawberries about Hotel Gerberhaus
In the hotel where I stayed, I was pleasantly surprised that they have a dinner menu for Indonesian food!
I even took a pix of the menu, but it could be too small to read. Nonetheless, the dishes are affordable and DELICIOUS! We ordered the Soto Soup, Fried Noodles, and Rice with sweet-sour chicken. There are not many choices, but they're good;)
The Medieval Crime Museum
by Binegars1990
The museum had a great collection of instrument of torture, items used in the execution of sentences, documents of emperors, princes, and the nobility and towns. It gives you a glance of how the judicial system has evolved to the 19th century. It was also very nice to go to a museum and not only have the native langue, but also in other international langue. This was a pleasant surprise; all of the displays were also explained in English. It hard to believe that such a beautiful midieval town such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber, still had a dark side.

A: "Rothenburg ob der Tauber is not the best place to choose for a base, because its train station is rather small and you'd have to change trains often if you wanted to..."
