Moat under Church and City Wall
We are traveling by bicycle from Wurzburg to Rothenburg using folding bicycles that will have been brought to Germany in large suitcases. We need to have these empty suitcases moved from our hotel in Wurzburg to our hotel in Rothenburg while we take four days to ride between the two cities. Any suggestion of how we might have our four suitcases transferred from Wurzburg to Rothenburg? Thanks for the help. David
If the measures of a packet do not exceed 120 x 60 x 60 centimetres you can send the suitcases in a normal parcel by DHL which is the parcel service of German Post. They also have a special service for bigger boxes (up to 4 cubic metres), and a packing service, and even pick the stuff up.

Just before you get to the Plonlein, you will see the Gothic ST. JOHN'S CHURCH orST. JOHANNIS KATHOLISCHE KIRCHENGEMEINDE. St. John's was a house of god at the beginning of the 13th century and underwent renovations in 1967 and 1997. The Church has an historic Steinmeyer organ with organ works from the year 1885.

I cannot say that I would go to Rothenburg just for these, but they are nice! A speciality of the town, these "snowballs" are made in just about any bakery, and are deep fried dough, turned into bundles and rolled in sugar or chocolate or other coatings.
The old Casemattes (the living and working-rooms of the knights, defending the castle) is another quite interesting part of this museum in the north-end of the medieval townwall.
You may see a few cannons left and an interesting exhibition about the last days of WW II, when Rothenburg almost completely burned down after a bombing by allied troops.
At the first moment this sounds like an act of insane cruelty against such a beautiful old town without any strategical importance, BUT then you may also learn about the german General Weißenberger, who had the idea to make the city of Rothenburg his head-quaters in the very last days of the war, and about his oder to defend the city of Rothenburg untill the very last soldier...
The foundation was layed in 900 AD, this place literally has history dripping from its walls. The nightwatchman at the end of the tour recommended this place for a drink. We were the first people at the tavern after the tour and took the last table available. Many of the folks from the tour were trying to get a seat-so if you are planning on going, try to arrive before 9 pm. They have a huge selection of Franken wine and the coolest cozy large party room I have ever seen. We had an appetizer plate with sausage, cheese and bread for 8.50 E.
