I have stayed in this house several years ago when I first visisted the area with my parents. It is a lovely house, nicely decorated and well placed. We stayed in apartment Am Schloss on the first floor. There are three apartments, two on each floor with the owners living on the bottom floor. Our apartment was very spacious, there is a single toilet, then a bathroom with seperate bath, shower and another toilet, a small kitchen, two bedrooms (one twin, one single) and a living/kitchen room which goes out onto the balcony. The balcony overlooks the fields, mountains and both castles. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and television and cd player.
Haus Hanni is easy to find, in a great location, right opposite from the Castle Neuschwanstein. It is located on the edge of the small village of Schwangau which is far away from the tourist centre of Hohenschwangau, but still close enough to everything you need. We stayed in Zimmer 3 on the third floor, it comprised of two double bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and living room/diner with balcony. Everything was very clean and the kitchen came with kettle, coffee machine and toaster, as well as an oven and fridge/freezer.
The view from our balcony was amazing, you can find a picture of it in my photos section. There are a few houses in front of this one, but because the castle is high up, and you have the rest of the Bavarian Alps behind it, it makes one of the best views you can have in this town.
We stayed in room 2 in Haus Lizzi. It was on two floors, the first floor had a kitchen, bathroom and living room and the two bedrooms were on the 2nd floor. There was a balcony off the kitchen looking over the main street of Schwangau and one off the living room which looked out onto the mountains.
The family that own it are very friendly and helpful, they speak enough English to understand you. The town is small and there are plenty of restaurants near the guesthouse and also two small supermarkets within 5 minutes walking distance.
The views are amazing, there is no other buildings between the house and the mountains, just fields and cows. You can see the castle Neuschwanstein, the little church St Colomans and the Tegelberg station.
We really recommend this Guesthouse/farm, very friendly people, clean and a good breakfast for the price of 15 € a person.
Peaceful, great views of the lake, mountains....
We had a room with "schlossblick"--a view of the castle. This is a truly lovely hotel: immaculate accommodations and a highly attentive staff. By calling a day ahead with an approximate arrival time, the staff obtains tickets to the castles so guests need not wait in the long ticket times that are inevitable during the height of the tourist season at this popular tourist destination.
It was a lovely room with the most spacious and convenient bathroom of our two-week trip.
It is situated on a road between the two castles, with the castle conveyances (carriages and buses) right outside the front door. (Not to worry: the "road apples" disappear very promptly and without a trace!)
And there is a very comfortable garden dining area with very cordial and attentive waiters: they're there when you need them and they allow you to enjoy your meal without being rushed.
Lovely view of the castle from the balcony outside our room.
