Start your visit in Wurzburg with a trip to the Marienburg Fortress, built in bits and pieces over 700 years, it's where the city's prince- bishops lived and ruled until 1719. Enter through the Scherenberg gate through the 15th century walls. The fortress has a great commanding view of the city: give yourself enough time to visit the fortress arsenal, now a museum.
