I will be travelling to Würzburg by car and am looking for a moderately priced hotel either in an area where I can explore the sights by walking or a place in an attractive setting outside center city.

Last year we stayed in the Dorint Novotel Wurzburg - Ludwigstrasse 97070. There was a car park and it cost 115 euros for the 4 of us with no breakfast. Obviously if you are not a family of 4 it will be less.

Ludwigstrasse is off of Berliner Platz (if you have a map)

Novotel have a website so you can check it out on there and book online, also - sometimes better rates to go direct through the website :)

Hi,
Can't suggest any hotel I am afraid but you might want to read my tips about Wuerzburg.

Enjoy your time there!

Try the Hotel Regina, within walking distance of most of downtown.

Travel Tips for Würzburg

Würzburg Welcome Card

by globetrott

Würzburg Welcome Card is a small card for just 3 euros and it entitles you for various reductions at many tourist-places of interest. You will get this card totally free of charge at many hotels, when you register as a guest or as a day-tourist you pay 3 euros at the tourist-office in Falkenhaus for that card !
You will get some reductions in the following places :
guided tours of the old city of Wuerzburg
Souvenirs that you buy
in the tourist-information in Falkenhaus
Guided tours of Marienberg castle
various museums & wine-cellars
guided tours of St.Kilian-church
cruises to Veitshöchheim
in the local theatre and some restaurants

Klanggarten

by globetrott

Klanggarten is a smaller part of the giant park of the Residenz in Wuerzburg. It seems to have a great acustic and plenty of signposts led me there, BUT I could not find anything special there...
In any case the rest of the park is really worth a visit and you certainly need 1 hour at least to explore all of it. the park was rebuilt several times and the way it looks today it dates back to 1755.
The park of the Residenz is open untill sundown
at least till 08.00p.m. !
No entrancefee !

River Main

by chodearm

Another town, well city, situated on a picturesque river. The River Main cuts through Wurzburg acting as a first defense to the castle up on the hill, Marienberg. Bi-secting the city from the Castle, the river is lined with parks, as homes and shops pack against park lines to form walls to this earth scar.

Residenz

by Ewingjr98

Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp Franz built the Residenz from 1720-1744. Upon its completion, it became the residence (hence the name!) of the prince-bishops of Wurzburg. The palace is surrounded by splendid gardens and fountains, and there is a winery in the basement.

The Residenz was severely damaged by an Allied bombing run in 1945, but -- like the rest of Wurzburg -- it has been restored.

Hofkirche

by Nemorino

This Court Church is in the south wing of the Residenz. It seats up to 200 people, and you can rent it for 200 euros plus expenses if you want to hold a concert here, for instance.

You can also get married here for 50 euros plus expenses.
