Hotel und Restaurant Goldenes Fass

If you like teddy-bears..........

....this place is full of them. And photos of them, and of various stage actors/singers who have (presumably) stayed there in the past. It's a 'theatre-hotel', apparently, as well as a 'teddy-bear clinic'.

It's conveniently located on a side-street about 10 minutes walk from the station, and about the sme to the town centre. The Burgerspital is almost opposite, so easy to taste a lot of wine and then wobble back to your room.

The hotel breakfast was fine, the usual rolls/meats/cheeses/preserves with the offer of an egg if you wanted one. Coffee came in its own pot (good), staff were pleasant and courteous.

But: staff are only there during breakfast hours. When I arrived (and on the other days) instructions for room numbers etc were left on a whiteboard/blackboard. It took me a while to work out that the room key was in the room door, and that I was supposed to just sort myself out. It's essential to take the key with you as well (it's on a big lump of wood) because if the restaurant on the ground floor is closed the hotel door is locked too. There are phone numbers to contact, but I didn't try them.

My single room was on the third floor (steep stone stairs, no lift), rather small and felt 'student-y'.......the type of room provided in UK universities. It was perfectly clean, but the sheet was well-worn ('bobbly'). No air-con (although there was a fan) so without my earplugs sleeping on a hot night would have been difficult. It's not a busy road, but noise echoes.

It's expensive for what is provided, I think..........more like a guest house/b&b than a hotel.

Unique Quality: The frontage is painted in a rather amazing fashion.
