Possible move

by davidr75

My wife and I have an opportunity to move towurzburg in October, it is our plan to move to Europe at some point and this is our first offer. I would like to get some of the people who live there to make an suggestions or advise that we should know before making this big decision. Thanks in advance.

Würzburg is a beautiful city. But if you think of moving there that's not enough, of course. There's a good book by an American living in Germany written for Americans coming to live in Germany: "Culture Shock Germany" by Richard Lord.Lots of good advice, some stereotypes and plenty of facts.

Take a stroll across the Old Main River Bridge (Alte Mainbrücke), built between 1473-1543 in the mid 1700s they added statues of saints. The bridge is pretty and the view is lovely. Skip the taxi – walking across the bridge is the best way to get to St. Kilian's.

Kapelle.
The kapelle is a small church hidden near the fortress Marienberg. You get there by following a stair covered by trees and vines. Once you get there you follow the twelve station of christ and at the end the church. I dont have any pictures of the church because there was a ceremony going on so I did not what to intrude.

The Residenz

by 15ilikestuff

The Residenz, a gigantic palace, is the main attraction in Wurzburg. Almost all of it is restored since the heavy bombings of WWII. Most rooms are empty (and by empty I mean large white rooms without any decoraction and not open for viewing), but those that remain or have been recreated are beautiful (though like many palaces, it is virtually empty). The main hall is supposed to be the highlight of the complex but when I visited it was being renovated. Even if it was visible, the Residenz in Munich is larger and more impressive. You can probably see the palace in under an hour which allows time to see the gardens next door.

Residence Court Gardens

by codrutz

Court gardens consist of two parts: the East Garden, with a big circular part and then sort of a triangle, and the South Garden, that is two to three times bigger. Both are nicely done on a terrain with ups and downs, it is not a flat garden like in other palaces. Building the gardens began only after the Residence was completed inside and out. The gardens are free of charge, there are few benches, so this is like a walk in a park, a beautiful park may I add.

Stift Haug

by leics

This was the first Baroque church to be built in the region of Franconia........by an Italian architect, Petrini.

It dates from the mid-late 1600s, but was badly damaged by the 1945 fire.

Above the altar is a huge painting by Tintoretto, so it's worth visiting just for that.
