Gym Cost

by ktalebian

Hi there,
I am moving to Germany very soon, for two university terms.
Now I was wondering what would the cost of the gym be if I want to sign up for 8months? I'm going to University of Wuerzburg, so I don't mind to go to their gym either.
Also, what is the cost of the protein shakes there? (sorry I am being very specific, its just that I couldn't find the answer to these questions anywhere!)

Hi,
Most universities have a own Sportzentrum.
Here is the website:
http://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/ueber/zentrale_einrichtungen/sportzentrum/hochschulsport/startseite/

The sportcard costs 15€ in the first semester , after that only 10€ per semester. But for the fitness rooms you need another card (I think additionally). This card costs 30€.

And here is the link for their fitness program:
http://www.hochschulsport.uni-wuerzburg.de/sportangebot_vorlesungsfreie_zeit_-_beginn_090209/fitness/

There are two fitness rooms: The Fitness-Studio and the Kraft-/ Cardioraum. There you can train yourself, whenever you like (see opening times).

Hope this helps!
(There might be cheap normal fitness centers, too. Best to find out when you there, I guess. Just walk down the streets and ask in the centers when you spot on. I've never been in one, so I can't even give you a guess, what they charge. But some have students discounts.)

In an average gym you have to expect a monthly fee of 50 Euro plus.

Prices for proteins vary extremely, depending on what exactly you want. Just to give you an idea, have a look at this website which is one of zillions:

http://www.fitness24.de/cgi-bin/mshop.pl?aktion=zeigeProdukt&kategorie=home&ref=google&key=eiweiszpulver

If you want to google more just google for: Eiweißpulver (Eiweisspulver).

Thanks for the replies.
I checked all the websites.
For the gym, I want a weight room gym. That's the only gym I want. I don't actually want like a fitness program such as cardio and such! Any links for that?!

Thanks :)

Re: Gym Cost

I cannot speak for Würzburg in particular but the concept of most gyms in Germany (when they are not on a uni campus or a high performance sports stadium) is to offer weight rooms and cardio rooms, either separate or combined, and you choose what and how you use it. As you asked for proteins I can well imagine that you are more interested in the weight rooms ;-))

Even gyms run by bodybuilders have cardio areas and even aerobics rooms because a gym would not be profitable with weightrooms only. Most people who go to gyms nowadays try to lose weight and not bulk up big muscles, just enough muscle to burn more calories when sleeping... ;-)

Well thank you a lot!!! I now have some of the basic info for this :)

Travel Tips for Würzburg

A great church

by MEdelmann

Würzburg is a very unique and great baroque town located in the northern part of Bavaria. Due to heavy bombings of the allied armies in World War II., W?rzburg was heavily destroyed. But there are still some wonderful buildings in the old town centre, like this beautiful church. Just go around and look ... and don't forget your camera ...

:-))

I have been talking so much...

by smoox

I have been talking so much about it - here it is, Franconian wine in the typical bottle, the 'Bocksbeutel'. It comes in other bottles, too - but only Franconian wine may come in vessels like this one. Unique!

Inside St. Johannis Church

by Nemorino

Another distinctive feature of this church is the Sculpture of "The Coming of the Lord", by Helmut Amman, which is suspended from the ceiling above the altar.

This church is the home of the Würzburg Bach Choir, which performs here regularly, for instance during the annual "Bach Days" in November.

"Residenz" in Wuerzburg

by christi_arne

Prince bishops' palace, UNESCO-World Heritage, main work of South German Baroque period, one of Europe's most ornate palaces.

Built 1720 -1744 according to plans of Balthasar Neumann, assisted by L. v. Hildebrandt of Vienna and M. von Welsch of Mainz.

Unique staircase with cantilever cupola and largest ceiling-painting of the world by the Venetian Tiepolo.

Cathedral St. Kilian

by zrim

The cathedral is almost 1000 years old, except that it has been rebuilt several times in several styles (baroque, romanesque, gothic). To top it all off, the cathedral was all but destroyed at the end of World War II. Perhaps it is not the perfect epitome of any one style, but it is still a dramatic and extremely large structure. I liked it.
