Decent middle class hotel in convenient location

St Josef is a convenient middle class hotel. It is run by an Italian family who has been living in Würzburg for decades. Languages: German, English, Italian.

Don't expect luxury but it has everything the average visitor needs. The furniture of the rooms is 1980s and not that pretty but so what, it was clean and everything was intact, that's what counts. No complaints about the beds either.

The restaurant downstairs offers Franconian and Italian food, okay quality, big servings, and prices below average. Try the Krautheimer Beer which comes from a small brewery in the village of Krautheim, excellent and served only in a few pubs in Würzburg.

Unique Quality: The location: hardly more than five minutes walk from the train station, just round the corner from Bürgerspital, 10 minutes to Residenz and market square.

Semmelstraße is a rather quiet side street. My room was in the back building, hence even quieter. The "noisiest" thing I heard was the rustling of a fountain in the garden of neighbouring Bürgerspital (which is turned off at night, though).

The breakfast buffet deserves a honourable mentioning due to its abundance and quality. The nciest place to sit is the winter garden (i could not avoid noticing that the owners cultuvate a certain affection towards kitschy little figures that are everywhere among the many flower pots).
