What's better for an overnight-stay: Bremen or Bremerhaven ??

by WStat

I just want to start a major journey without any hectic, going "low and slow"
As my vessel will depart from Bremerhaven around 4 pm, I'm considering to add another overnight.Where does it make more sense, in Bremen or directly in Bremerhaven, especially w.r. to visiting a few nice places, cultural- and foodwise ??
Thanks for your support in advance!

I would stay in Bremen, it has a nice towncenter and some quite good museum (unfortunatly the Kunsthalle is closed), in Bremerhaven i was only short in the daytime, but i wasn´t realy impressed.

Bremerhaven is a port town. Bremen is a large city with a long and distinguished history. I've been to both, and if it were me, Bremen, no questions asked.

I've visited both cities and I recommend Bremen. The inner city is well worth a visit and there are some interesting museums.

Bremerhaven on the other hand has not much to offer.

Thank you, Bernd!
I appreciate your advice - it is going to be Bremen for sure!

Travel Tips for Bremen

Have breakfast!

by Xfire

Breakfast is a big thing in Germany. Grannies tell you that it is the most important meal of the day. Germans like to meet up for that. It can go on for hours and is mostly celebrated with a big variety of things, such as different buns, whole-grain bread various meat slice, gouda, goat cheese, camembert, honey melon, ham, boiled egg, scrambled egg, prosecco, cappuchino, latte.

Good locations are Piano and Litfass in the Viertel. Don't go to Alex for breakfast, it is expensive and the scrambled egg is served lukewarm.

Bremer Stadtmusikanten

by lil_traveller

When my friend and I were in Bremen we walked all over the city to find these 3 animals. They are all from a fairytale : the mule, dog, cat, chicken. They all fought against robbers and won, and they used to sing as well. Not a very nice background behind us in the picture but I guess there was some construction going on...

Breakfast

by Turska about Cafe Garde

We didn´t have breakfast at hotel,so we went here for a tea/coffee and a roll. They had simple rolls,so it was easy to pick up something.Seems like Germans like rolls with lots of different fillings, and if you are allergic to something it´s hard to ask what is in,if you don´t speak german. So this was easy, and fresh.Nothing special, but o.k.And not very expenisve. There was at least two of these. This one is at Dome-squere

Liebfrauenkirche

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Different reorganizations of Liebfrauenkirche were made in the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries. T

he western facade with two towers in height of 98 meters was updated in the end of XIX-th century.

The famous musicians

by actualtourist

The statue of the rooster perched on the cat on the dog and finally on the donkey from the famous Grimm Brothers' tale stands on the west side of the city hall. The legs of the donkey are shiny as they are rubbed by many people who visit the statue. My friend from Bremen tells me that you will become lucky if you "caress" the animals and I guess most people can't reach the other animals as they are up so high.
