Bremen to Frankfurt

by Mingaile

I will be traveling from Bremen to Frankfurt and I was wondering what would be the cheapest way to get there. Train fares are really expensive. Maybe there is some discount tickets for students or there is a bus connection between these cities?

You can get train tickets from EUR 29 if booked well in advance (max 92 days).

If you want to go cheap, get the Schönes Wochenende Karte or "Beautiful Weekend Ticket". It's 37 Euros for a ticket which covers 5 people.

The only caveats are that you have to use it on the Saturday or Sunday and you can't take the fast trains (ICE)

To find the times and routes this is valid, use the website from the above poster, but select "only local traffic".

No.

No.

You can use one of the discounted specials for the trains offered by DB - if still available.
You can also try to select as means of transport "All without ICE" and "only local transport".

Ride sharing is also an option. Probably the cheapest.

If you are able to get to Hamburg or Hanover for little money (car sharing, student semester ticket, etc.), then you can make use of the night bus from those two cities to Frankfurt.

If you buy the tickets more or less a month in advance, you might get the cheapest fare of 9 euro or the next ones for 19 and 29.

However, if you have this much time to make advance bookings, you'd better go for the train tickets of 29 euro. Certainly, the train is faster and more comfortable.

M?hle am Wall

by joernme

Especially with nice wheather it's fun to walk around the Wallanlagen park, the green belt with water around the city center. In former times to protect the city from enemies, now a nice area for walking or ice skating in winter. The old windmill now is a nice cafe, great to sit inside or outside.

Located half way between the central station and the Soegestrasse shopping area.

In for a good sandwich?

by TimDK about SubWay

SubWay is a food chain where they sell delicious sandwiches.

You can choose between various sizes and types of bread and can have any garniture you like. Definately recommended when you want to have a quick and decent bite! Italian Sandwich with Turkey Breast, cheese and Mexican hot sauce is my favorite: it's a very tasty sandwich which you can have either cold or warm. Go for the warm one and ask for Mexican hot sauce if you like spicy food.

Roland - Knight of Charlemagne

by Mariajoy

Standing at 3 meters high, this statue of Roland, the Knight of Charlemagne was erected in 1404 and is the oldest and largest of his kind amongst all the other Hanseatic cities in Germany. The Roland statues are symbols or a type of hallmark of trading rights and freedom throughout these cities and the statue here in Bremen, together with the Rathaus are what make this city a UNESCO World Heritage site.

When I visited Bremen it was Oktoberfest time and he was sporting one of those ubiquitous gingerbread hearts which can be bought on virtually any market stall at this time.

Roland stands proudly facing the St Petrie Dom, this was done deliberately by Bremen merchants of the 16th century, to show the church that they would never again be dominated by them and asserting their independence and their allegiance to the emporer.

Böttcherstrasse

by pieter_jan_v

This small is street leading from the Market square to the Weser river is your perfect start of a city walk in the Bremen Altstadt.

You will find the Paula Becker-Modersohn exhibition and the Roselius Museum with its collection of items representing the heyday of Hanseatic merchant tradition.
Every day at noon, 3PM and 6PM the chimes will sound. Figures of the most famous ocean voyagers emerge and revolve to the sound of the bells.
