bicycles in Bremen

by halikowski

Can anybody tell me where I might get my hands on a bicycle in Bremen for the next month? The Radcentrum by the station offered to rent me one for 80 euros, but I am hoping to do better...

To Dutch standards that looks like a good price, considering a day's bike hire is about 8-10 euro per day. Can't imagine it being too much different in Germany. And you're looking at 30 days!

Here's another address where you can try:

Dalladas
Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 142
28201 Bremen - Neustadt
Tel.: 0421 5578699
http://www.bremen.city-map.de/01110000/dalladas

On a map it's no. 2:
http://www.bremen.city-map.de/08000000/-2/869/Fahrradverleih

Send them an e-mail here:

80 Euro for a whole month? Grab it!

This is a very good price. Less than 3 Euro per day!

I have seen the bikes at the centre at the railway station just lately, they were in very good condition.

Travel Tips for Bremen

Haake Beck Krausen

by barryg23

This particular beer was the nicest I tasted on my visit and also one of the best beers I've ever had. Even Ruth like it and she normally dislikes beer. Unfortunately it is only sold in Bremen and within 100 miles of the Beck's brewery so we'll have to return to try it again. Before we left the brewery I pleaded with our tour guide to get the big bosses at Beck's to sell it abroad but it hasn't happened yet.

`Island between Weser and Kleine Weser

by halikowski

Go for an evening stroll on the `island' between the Weser and the Kleine Weser (it's not really an island, but has water on both sides for most of the way). Here, on the southern side of the Wilhelm-Kaisen Bruecke you quickly get into the green: allotments on the fertile silt soil, and small wooden chalets carefully fenced in. It's a lovely garden paradise full of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Indeed, someone had left massive gourds outside their allotments to passers-by simply because they had produced too many. Apples were good too!
But don't take your care: people here fastidiously observe Mittagsruhe between 13.00 and 15.00
If you are going past the red water tower (see photograph), built 1871-3, then you know you are heading in the right direction.

Friesenhof

by himalia11

The Friesenhof is an interesting restaurant - when you come in it looks like a modern bright restaurant and when you go deeper inside it's getting more rustic with half-timbered works, but all with maritime decoration. The food is also maritime, the Friesenhof is known for its fish dishes. But you also get all kind of other things and we all enjoyed the food!

The Markt Platz!

by schnezana

Most of the activity and people are to be found here. All buses and street cars stop here. There is always something happening here and most of the architectural sights are at this point. You can catch a tram just outside of the airport or train station that will bring you to this spot.

Roland statue

by himalia11

The Roland is a stone statue in front of the town hall that was erected in 1404. It is, together with the town musicians, a famous landmark of Bremen. The statue shows a knight who is holding the "sword of justice" and a shield with an eagle. Such Roland statues were built in many other towns in the medieval times but the one in Bremen is probably most known.
The Roland also is the symbol of the city's freedom, and there's a legend that Bremen is free and independent as long as the Roland is watching over the town. There are rumours that there's a backup statue in the cellar-vaults of the town hall, just in case something happens to the original Roland statue. Better be on the safe side!
