I really could not really take...
by jockoh
I really could not really take any one around as it has been so long ago since I was stationed there while in the navy For a duty station it was the relaxed way we operated
and the fond memories are from the trips made taking some supplies to various stations

Simon-Loschen Lighthouse
by ringleader
One of the most famous landmarks of Bremerhaven.
The oldest mainland lighthouse on the North Sea coast is still in service today and certainly one of the most beautiful lighthouses anywhere. It was built in 1853 by Simon Loschen, the architect of the Mayor Smidt memorial church. The lighthouse is a successful synthesis of the architectural styles of North German brick Gothic and concessions to the requirements of the age of technology. The lock leading to the New Harbor is located below the lighthouse.

"The Fishery Harbor"
The Fishery Harbor is about 20 minutes by bus from The Emigration Centre and the New Harbor (not really so "new" to us because it was built in the late 1800's). It is located in the south of Bremerhaven.
In the Fishery Harbor you can go to one of the fish restaurants or even buy fish. There is also a Marionette theatre in the fishery harbour, you can do a harbour cruise or visit the sea water aquarium.
The “Tschu Tschu train”, is a museum train that begins its tour at the fishery harbour. The Harbor Bus also starts from the Fishery Harbor and goes through the whole city centre of Bremerhaven including a visit of the huge container terminal of Bremerhaven.
"The most popular sights in Bremerhaven are:"
- The German Emigration Centre
- The zoo at the Sea (3minutes from the Emigration Centre)
- The National German Maritime Museum
- The Technical Museum Submarine “Wilhelm Bauer”
- The Radar Tower with look-out-platform
- The Historical Museum
- The city centre in the “Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße”
- The cruise through the harbour of Bremerhaven
- The ferry to Helgoland starting from Bremerhaven
"The German Emigration Center Museum"
There is a close place for shopping near the Emigration Centre. There is the “Columbus Centre” which is five minutes on foot from the Emigration Centre. By the way, the Emigration Centre itself is situated directly in the city centre of Bremerhaven. So, you will also find (fish) restaurants and shopping facilities here.
The Emigration Centre is also situated directly at the dyke of the river “Weser” in Bremerhaven. This area is known as the "New Harbor" area which is home to not only the Emigration Center; but, also to the zoo, The National Maritime Museum, and the Columbus Center shopping area.

Bramerhaven is a small German port town west of Hamburg. It used to have a large U.S. military base. The base is still the but the military left in the early 1990s, which was a drag on the economy. It still a nice town to see.
