Travel Tips for Bremerhaven

Sail 82, biggest meeting of sailing ships

by chancay

Bremerhaven is a nice little harbour town with an amazing ship museum. Part of it is a submarine you can visit, besides a big sailing ship with restaurant on board.
In the year 1982 (long time ago, I know) I´ve been there to see the SAIL. I think, every year in another place of the world all the still existing impressing sailing ships of the world meet to celebrate and present themselves. It´s amazing! If you here about near to you GO and WATCH!!

look at my travelogue to have a little impression, I´m sorry, the fotos are old, not best quality......and I´ve been quite young when I took them (11 years old)

Worpswede

by Mandy23

When you are in Bremerhaven, you can reach Worpswede in ca. 1 hour by car. It became well-known, because of many artists who were living there like Otto Modersohn, Fritz Mackensen, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Rainer Maria Rilke etc.

Lock of the New Harbor at Bremerhaven's North Sea

by ringleader

Schleuse Neuer Hafen

The first dock lock leading from the Weser to New Harbor caused a sensation around the world in 1852. The rebuilding of the year 2005 is in no way inferior to the original. The difference: the lock built between 1874 and 1852 could only be used during high tide; the new chamber lock with sector gates and swing bridges which was completed after 27 months of constructions is ultra-modern and technically unique worldwide. This should especially please weekend skippers who will now find a fast route from the New Harbor to the river Weser or to the harbor with their sailing or motor yachts. Nevertheless, the Lock New Harbor is not a pure ´sports-boat lock´ but suited to accommodate all ships that fit into the lock chamber measuring 50 x 14 metres. And in good weather, the length of the lock can even be extended to 62.50 m. The double front of the lock to seaside then becomes a single gate pair or sector pair.

Dimensions:
- usable length: 50.00 or 62.50 m
- usable width: 14.00 m
- depth: 5.50 to 6.50 m sea level
Usage:
- lock times 10 min to 45 min, depending on occupancy and water level difference
- highest water level for lock operation = sea level + 2.80 m
- lowest water level for lock operation = sea level - 3.00 m
Operating times:
- year-round
- during the season from 01. May - 30. September daily from 06:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- outside of the season from October - April daily from 10:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m.
- outside from the season at core times the lock also works on order

Bremerhaven

"Bremerhaven: A lovely coast town"

Bremarhaven is a very peaceful city just near by the North Sea in Germany. It is 70 km. from the main town Bremen. You can see all kinds of things about sea life in this little nice town. Especially if you are tired of big cities, traffic jams, the crowd, big ugly buildings etc... it is a lovely option to have a peaceful rest...

You can visit the ship museums at the marina!!!

In Bremaharven marina you can find all kind of ships, submarines, boats as museums. You can visit a ship from 1700's, a trade ship from 1800's, a war submarine from 1900's and travel in time...

"Inside the museum of a war submarine:)"

This is me inside a war submarine in the past. In the submarine you can find a lot of documents about this submarine and its past in English. You can see each room and every part of the submarine when you enter it. The entrance fee is only 3 EU.

"Zoo in Bermerhaven"

There is also a very interesting sea zoo in the coast of the Beremerhaven located just nearby the sea. It is a lovely zoo that you can find the chance too observe some animals like: polar bears, sea bears, sea lions and penguins only in that kind of zoo. The entrance fee is 7 EU.

BREMERHAVEN

by a5floor

On 6 July 2002 I went to Bremerhaven. To see the lights of the harbour at night.

I arrived in Bremerhaven at midnight. I drove around for an hour to find the right spot to take photos. At 1 am I found the right spot. I made several pictures. It was nice to be there. Unfortunately I could not stand on top of a stage. Otherwise when I was standing up there, I could make some better pictures.

Around 3 am I drove away. I also saw some big ships at another part of the harbour. Really GREAT to see it. After this I went back home. I arrived home at 7.30 am. Really tired when I arrived home but satisfied.
