Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum
In connection with the collections of the museum and the historic surroundings, the park-like area with its large maritime objects on land and the vintage ships of the museum fleet in the Old Harbor forms a unique ensemble of German maritime history. The attractions of the German National Maritime Museum range from the world`s oldest boat and the Technical Museum Submarine „Wilhelm Bauer” to the only remaining Hansa cog of the Medival Era. The museum owns more than 500 model ships, including splendid, magnificent sailing ships intended to conquer colonies. Impressive whalers, two-masters and three-masters that carried the emigrants to their new homeland can also be admired. The new extension should not be overlooked either. Since 2000, it houses collections on the history of polar and marine research, fishing and whaling, raw materials from the sea, as well as the traditional craft of building boats from wood.

Zoo am Meer Bremerhaven GmbH
An experience for young and old. Eye to eye with polar bears, seals, penguins, etc. On land with a view of the ocean or through huge underwater windows.
There are polar bears, polar foxes, common seals, fur seals and penguins in settings created to imitate their natural habitat. Underwater views allow you to see penguins flying under water, diving polar bears and gliding seals. Seamen brought monkeys with them to the city from their foreign travels – so, they must also have their place in the harbor zoo.
Children have the chance to playfully compete with the skills of the animals on parallel adventure trails or to explore the small adventure playground. You can also relax on the terrace with a cup of coffee and enjoy the endless expanse of the ocean – not an everyday view!
Visitors can also see the animal feedings and the seal training.

Bremerhaven wasn't as nice looking as some of the other towns I had seen in Germany, but it had a different appeal to it. This is an industrial port city. While I was there I was able to tour a German U-boat and explore ships from the early 1900s. It was great to experience the city and getting out of the rural atmosphere I was used to.
