Hamburg - Copenhagen for 1 day

by mispar7

Is it worth to make such jump by train, for example, on Saturday or Sunday in May? I'll have only 1 or 2 free days in Hamburg (Brackel).
What can be the program?
Thanks.

RE: Hamburg - Copenhagen for 1 day

by cachaseiro

it takes you around 6 hours by train from hamburg to copenhagen, sp it is a bit of a long ride for just one day.
i would say that you should spend minimum two days on the trip if you wanna do it.

you are most welcome in copenhagen though :O)

Claus, the direct train is 4 hours 40 but that's still quite a trek for just one day of course. And your six-hour train might have better times as the first direct train is 9.25-14.05 compared to catching an 18.43 train and getting to Copenhagen around 1.00 at night for some sleep and then a (tired) day of discovering.

Travel Tips for Hamburg

The Elbe - view from Altona

by yooperprof

One of the best places to catch a glimpse of the active working port is from the "suburb" of Altona, where an overlook allows for viewing the bustling river below. Container ships carry Germany's industrial bounty to the far corners of the world - Germany being the one of the world's leading exporters, with a dramatic _trade surplus_, in sharp contrast to some other nations that shall remain nameless.

Butterfly Gardens

by Kushelkitten

Interested in a walk in a park? Do you like butterflies? Visit Friedrichsruh and the Schmetterling Garten a small town easily accessable from Hamburg . They have varieties of butterflies from Germany and Europe as well as more exotic varieties from Asia and South America.

In the butterfly house be careful not to step on the quail family that runs around. Too cute.

Admission €4 for Adults, €3 for Children

Restaurant on premises with traditional German cuisine as well as burgers and wursts.

Open Spring & summer: 9am-6pm; autumn & winter: 9am-5pm

Location : Am Sachsenwald, Friedrichsruh, Schleswig-Holstein

How to get there: From Hamburg take the R20 regional train direction Rostock. Only 2 stops from the Hamburg Hbf .
Once there a short walk to the Schmetterling Garten

Great Public Transportation!

by Carletto76

Hamburg's public transportation (HVV) is really great: you can go everywhere with the U and S-Bahn and the buses too.
And it's inexpensive too: the "Familien/Gruppenkarte" ticket is really cheap if you are in a group up to 5 people: 7.40 euros for the whole day!
There is also GSM coverage by operator E-Plus in all the U-Bahn lines.

Möwenpick Hanseviertel

by tini58de

The Möwenpick is in the Hanseviertel. I would consider it just another place to sit down and rest your hurting feet after shopping around the area. I have only been there once and was quite satisfied.

What is nice is the piano player who plays there quite often - that makes the place special to me!

climb in the tower

by Aspati

It was so hot day that climbing in the tower was a bit complicated. We made small competition between two of us - who will be first in the top.

From the toer you can see the most beautiful view. All Hamburg city is bellow your feet.

If you are not healthy enough to climb you can use elevator. Price is the same for both ways: 2.50 EUR.

Don't forget to visit church from inside. it is amazing.
