Earth Angel
by Kushelkitten
The "Earth Angel" is a sculpture that is in the courtyard of what remains of the Nikolai Kirche.
I just found it an interesting piece and thought I would add it here since it is an additional something to see if you visit the Nikolai Kirche.
I realize the picture isnt in the best angle but at the time of day it was taken it was the only way not to be blinded by the sun. Perhaps I will go back and take a better picture soon.
Most of Hamburg's historical...
by maksim_caine
Most of Hamburg's historical buildings were destroyed either in the 'Great Fire' in the year of 1842 or in the 2nd World War. But there are two small streets in the harbour area where some old warehouses have survived: DEICHSTRASSE and CREMON. Here you can get an impression of what the old hanseatic town looked like and also find some very good restaurants, for example the 'Aalspeicher'.
Musicals in Hamburg
by chris.hh about King Lion, Tarzan, Udo Juergens...
Hamburg is one of Germany's musical cities.
These are the actual musicals playing (Feb.2009):
King Lion (Harbor Theatre, you have to go to U Landungsbrücken and take a ferry)
Tarzan (Neue Flora Theatre, U Holstenstraße, music by Phil Collins)
Ich war noch niemals in New York (I've never been in NYC - musical with songs of Udo Jürgens, a popular German singer, he's in his 60s, 70s, and had many Schlager songs, a German thing though, not really my fave but for the elderly generation it might be something. His most famous songs: Aber bitte mit Sahne; Mit 66 Jahren; Ich war noch niemals in New York; Siebzehn Jahr, blondes Haar; Griechischer Wein; Vielen Dank für die Blumen...). Playing in the Operettenhaus at Reeperbahn.
Heiße Ecke in Schmidts Tivoli Theatre also at Reeperbahn. I wrote something on this in my Reeperbahn tip.

Saliba
by tini58de
This Syrian restaurant is located at the Alsterarkaden right next to the Hamburg townhall. They have the most delicious food and a spectacular view, when sitting outside. The inside sitting area is rather small, but they do have about 10 tables upstairs. Reservations are recommended! The "mazza" - mixed starters - are our alltime favourites! They are very very yummie!
We also had an eggplant risotto with almonds and raisins, lamb, fish and a plate of mixed warm mazza (saussage, scampi, meat), all of them were absolutely delicious!
The burnt church walking tour
by ChadSteve1975
While walking around Hamburg you can't miss the burnt church on the skyline.
I walked past the church walking from the St Pauli area into town. It's a walk I'd do especially in the summer as it was but others may wish to use public transport. The streets around the church were quant. A tourist shop is there, and they were filming some tv program too.
I was over churches by this time so did not go inside.
