Midweek nightlife in Hamburg

by benbloom

I'll be in Hamburg for the Europa League final on Wednesday 12th May - just as a general soccer fan from Ireland, definitely not a hooligan! Is there anywhere good to have a night out in Hamburg on a Wednesday night? A good club or disco that caters for thirtysomethings? Is St Pauli the best place to head? I probably won't be back in the town centre until after midnight...

Any advice greatly appreciated...

As a tourist I would go Reeperbahn. Even if you are not interested in adult entertainment it is a ggod place for having a beer and to experience the atmosphere. You will find there pubs, restaurants and discos. http://www.reeperbahn-hamburg.com/reeperbahn.htm

I don't know what kind of entertainment you are looking for. I can also recommend Schanzenviertel to you, S-Bahn Sternschanze. It is not touristic like Reeperbahn and a lively quarter with a lt of pubs, restaurants and clubs.
Have fun!

Travel Tips for Hamburg

Hamburg Funfair

by barryg23

We had a great time at the funfair in the park in St. Pauli. We were walking back to our hotel through the park after a long day of sightseeing in the city and it was very easy to give in to temptation and spend the evening here. I think my favourite memory was going on the Bumper Cars after 5 pints of German beer.

Cycle Racing

by chris.hh

Once a year (mostly in late summer) there is a big cycle racing in Hamburg where also the cycling "stars" take part. In 2008 it will be the 7th of September.
Here the official website (sorry, but not in English):

MARKTHALLE

MARKTHALLE

This is a concert club and maybe a disco, not sure...
They seem to have a very decent programme there, lots of concerts I'd like to go to, check it out on their website, maybe there's something interesting going on while you're in the city.
Anyway, we went to a concert of 'The Oysterband' and I had a great time - I've heard though, that it might get very warm and sticky inside, also when it is very crowded you might get some problems with this stair-arena-construction in the big hall. On the other hand it's good for sitting and waiting.

Shanghai in Hamburg

by nepalgoods about Yu Garden/Lu Bolang

Hamburg has a long city partnership with Shanghai. In 2004 the building of an intercultural center was started. When it was finished it was the famous Yu-Garden teahouse of shanghai rebuilt in Hamburg. Just behind the Etnological Museum the Yu Garden is a completely Chinese construction, which looks a bit strange in this neighborhood with typical German cityhouses.

Inside you find a teahouse, a restaurant with Shanghai Cuisine and a big hall, where festivals and lectures are being hold. It is very nice location. China Tours uses it for events and lecture, also the Hamburgian Konfuzius-Institute has their meetings here. The ffod is shanghai and average Chinese cuisine. The staff is very, very Chinese. They are not very well trained, maybe they are state employees of PR China. I do not know for sure. The girls give the restaurant the atmosphere of a state run restaurant in China. But the food is ok.
