Hamburg Airport to Train Station: How Much Time to Allow?

by flyer1955

I will be arriving in Hamburg at 7:30am on a flight from the US. At the moment, I am booked on a 13:46 train to Amsterdam. I'm sure I'll be able to take an earlier train but am wondering what is realistic--9:46 or 10:46.
I know that there is an express bus direct to the train station. Is it possible to buy my ticket on board or will I have to wait on a line somewhere. That said, would I be better off taking a cab?
Thanks.

Hello,
if you're already booked for the 13:46 train your ticket might not be valid on other trains. Somer offers require use of selected trains.
The airport express busses leave in intervals of 15 minutes, the bus takes 25 minutes to the main station. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver.

Thanks Elana. I've already checked. The ticket is transferable.

Travel Tips for Hamburg

Venice?

by AndyRG

The city looks so nice in the old waterhouse quarter and the little canals. In fact, half of the city surface is made up of green or waterways.
Hamburg is also one of the greenest cities, with many parks, as Alster Park (with Alster Lake too. I had seen squirrels climbing on the trees there).
Make a visit to the Ohlsdorf cemetery (2nd largest in the world!) and the zoo (with over 2.000 animals!).

Bischofsturm

by nepalgoods

The Bischofsturm - english: Tower of the Bishop - is the remains of an old fortification, which is today known as part of the ancient city- fortification of the 11th century. Big stones build the fundament of a tower. It has been thought, that this maybe the remains of the stonehouse of Bishop Bezelin-Alebrand (around 1035). Now the stone fundament can be seen in the souterain of the building, where the office of St Petri is. It is opposit of St Petri and the Domplatz. It can be visited. Entrace-fee is 1 Euro

For a nightlife there are more...

by chatzchen

For a nightlife there are more interesting things for example:

-The Schlachthof (Slaughterhouse) near U-Bahn Feldstrasse where they have concerts and life music.

- The Fabrik for life music and various culture see:
www.fabrik.de

-At the Reperbahn there is a place called Dollhouse in the street called
Große Freiheit. There you can enjoy stiptease and american table dance. (With watching and klapping hands, not by doing, although they sometimes they request visitors to join the show ;-) )

- The Pulverfass does Travestie Shows and Cabaret. It is locatet at Pulverteich 12, Telefon: 249791, more info at
www.pulverfass.de

The picture below shows the fishmarket, where you can meet lots of people on Sunday morning between 6-10 am after a night of dancing and drinking to eat some 'Fischbrötchen' (Fish-sandwich) and to get rid of their hangover. In the big hall they have bands who play music.

QUICK & HOT ..... COFFEE IN HAMBURG

by STEFZAMM about THEVS & CO.

VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE COFFEE HOUSES AT HOME... SMALL BUT MULTI - PURPOSE .. ON ONE SIDE THERE'S THE COFFEE AND THE SWEETS AND ON THE OTHER THERE'S WOMENS' UNDERWEAR... WAS MEANT FOR THAT BUSY WOMAN WHO HAS NO TIME FOR COFFEE OR FOR THAT NOT BUSY WOMAN WHO CAN ALLOW HERSELF A COFFEE WHILE BUYING HER UNDERWEAR... ;) ON THE PAVEMENT OUTSIDE THOUGH THERE ARE STANDING TABLES. DEFINETELY BEST ESPRESSO MACCHIATO I HAD IN HAMBURG.
THERE WERE ALSO PROMOTIONAL OFFERS...

Fischmarkt

by bonio

Early Sunday morning is the time to visit here, between 6 and 10 is when the action takes place! Traders selling their wares, not just fish, just about anything is on offer. There is a band playing in the Fischmarkt hall and of course there is food and beer available too. Many of the crowd were on their way home from Saturday partying I think.
