When we decided to go to Hamburg for our main holiday stay in 2010, I started looking at hotels. This was several months before we went and so I was lucky to find a good deal for the Crowne Plaza. Usually this hotel would have been too expensive, but taking advantage of the special it was affordable.
We had a nice double with a good-sized bathroom.Breakfast was self service buffett style, offering just about anything from smoked salmon, scrambled eggs etc to cakes and fruits. I especially liked the coffee machine, where you could get all sorts of coffee. They also had a good assortment of teas. Breakfast would have been 22 Euro per person, but it was included in our rate.
The hotel is built around an inner court with a tree in the centre, an unusual sight but a very pleasant one, especially with all the rain we had in August.
The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, which I used. Of course it's not a really large pool, but it was large enough to do some real swimming there. I also saw a gym, but didn't use it.
Unique Quality: The Außenalster is just about 3 minutes from the hotel. Each Wednesday evening the hotel organises a running group who takes you around the Außenalster - roughly 7,5 km. I joined them and it was a very nice run, even though we got soaking wet when it started to rain heavily.
The hotel is very close to a bus stop - about 100 meter - and it's about a 20 minute walk to the main train station.
In the price list down below I ticked the price range we had paid because of our special, if you pay the rack rate it will be more.
Directions: From the train station take the bus #6 to Graumannsweg, cross the street and you can see the hotel.
Excellent service and facilities in this hotel close to the city centre.
Unique Quality: Loved the location - 5 minutes walk from a tube and 2 minutes from a bus stop but also walkable into the centre, about a 10 minute walk through the St Georges area with its fashionable small shops to the city centre.
Breakfast was a great experience and the staff were particularly helpful.
