Hi. Can any member inform me whether the Rathaus in Hamburg operates a staff-canteen that is also open to the public, offering subsidized meals at lunchtime, the way the Rathaus's in Berlin do.
Ahem, two things:
- The meals are not really subsidized (why give away subsidezed meals to business people from around the townhall?). The company that operates the canteen is a charitable institution that provides severly hndicapped people with apprenticeships and jobs and therefore carries a smaller tax-burden, but the meals are not subsidized.
- As for a similar canteen in Hamburg: To my knowledge, there's none in the townhall. But the civil court is close by: 1 Sievekingplatz, 20355 Hamburg.
REEPERBAHN! /St.Pauli Hamburgs Red-light district is at s the sam time the best place to party! Lots of tourists are there all the time, but in all the little sidestreets you'll find great bars and pubs and lots of locals. The beuatiful view that you have when rideing the S21 train over the Alster on Kennedy-Bridge : Beautiful scenery on both sides, especially at sunrise / sundown!
This is actually a tip from my girlfriend, so I can't claim the credit myself.
On one of her shopping trips (which I generally don't accompany her on), she visited a department store called the Karstadt Warenhaus. Worn out from all her shopping she stopped for a coffee on the fifth floor reastaurant. Apparently, the views on over Hamburg are quite stunning.
Oh, and she says the shopping is good, too.

During July there's a B-Movie parade or something like that ... I just got the leaflet in a bar I was and since I really enjoyed the style of the leaflet I'd like to share this with all the travellers ... for more info u can check www.b-movie.de.
Graceland !!!! definitely to be visited to taste a relaxed atmosphere, bright colored interiors and peaceful open-air tables.
They're kind while serving and also after that if you ask for food tips ... they close a little bit too early for a southern europe but that's not a drama anyway ...
Cajun food; they sell spices and sauces to make everyone able to cook some cajun stuff Thick and spicy BBQ ribs !!!!
a cruise on the Elbe is an unforgettable experience. We took a small cruiseship from the Landungsbruecken harbour station and went upto Oevelgoenne. The ship was very crowded but my friend told me that it was so because that was a holiday and that on working days generally there is no such crowding. I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise past the ports of Hamburg.
