Luxuous

A wonderful place to stay. Outside of the hectic life, but walking distance to all major sights, including the middle of the centre. The rooms are just fantastic, large, spotless, modern, luxuous. All you can expect from a 5 star hotel. I paid 170 Euros 1 night, 1 person with BF.

by hb_capri about Piazza Romano at the Grand Elysee Hotel

The restaurant is in the lobby of the Grand Elysee Hotel and has a view of the Tropical Forest like enclosure with a big red Macaw in it.It serves a mostly Mediterranean fare.We ordered squid,Rack of Lamb which was a 3 course menu in itself and Spaghetti with king prawns. I'd have to say the spaghetti with King prawns was the best. The squid was ok but it was too salty for my liking. The rack of lamb was so-so nothing great. The asparagus appetizer which came with it was too bland and the dessert was down right unpalatable! I don't think I'd go to this restaurant again. There are a couple of other dining at the Grand Elysee

I'd go for the mariott -- CCH is still in walking distance, if you don't mind a 20 min stroll. The Mariott enjoys a lovely loaction, right in the middle of the upscale shopping area, alongside the canals leading from the Binnenalster lake to the Elbe river.

Thank you so much.I heard the Grand Elysee has good views of the park.I dont mind the stroll at all and I'd rather be in the middle of the shopping areas:)

Re: Hotel Choice

welcome :) Next to the Mariott is the so-called "Hanseviertel" shopping galleria (a small mall). It has a Mövenpick restaurant in its basement which is quite useful if you feel like having a cup of coffee and a nibble. They do pretty good cakes :)

Re: Hotel Choice

Oh the memories.
But Mövenpick Hanseviertel no longer exists.

Re: Hotel Choice

by RhineRoll

are you serious? Damn! Do you know what they are using that basement rotunda for, now? Is there another restaurant in its place? I thought the Mövenpick was rather nice because the food was fresh without becoming completely unaffordable.

Re: Hotel Choice

by Turtleshell

Yep, I'm dead serious. For some time, a certain Café Rouge replaced Mövenpick, but I believe they left last summer or fall.

Mövenpick Hanseviertel, just like Mövenpick Spitalerstraße, have always had difficulties to make profit*, and both no longer exist.

* Maybe that was, because I was working there when I was still studying.
