Accommodation near Hamburg
by Bozydugger
Hi I'm going to be in Hamburg on 22nd June for a world cup match. I require some accomodation fro 4 people for that night but everywhere in the city is either fully booked or very expensive. Can anyone recommend an alternative town nearby that's easily accessible by train from hamburg and will be good for 4 English tourists? A nice German town where we can get hostel accommodation maybe.
Any help would be great,
Thank,
Tom

Nice towns are not the problem, but the ones with hostels are not that close to Hamburg. And "hostel" type of accommodation during the World Cup is the one where demand exceeds the existing capacities at most.

Lüneburg is also rather nice and has a direct connection to Hamburg...
Smalltowns closer to the stadium (but not necessarily pretty) would be Elmshorn and Pinneberg. You might find accomodation there!
Travel Tips for Hamburg
Cross the road properly!
by leics
When there are lights controlling a junction, do make sure you only cross when they are on green for pedestrians. If you go on red, even if the road is clear, people will disapprove (and it may be an offence.....I'm not sure). Anyway, it's easier to wait until the correct time to cross.....but watch out for traffic being allowed to turn right across your path.
Luneburg Heath
by nepalgoods
South of Hamburg you find one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany: the Luneburg Heath or Lüneburger Heide.
The Luneburg Heath is a beautiful countryside landscape between the Rivers Elbe, Weser and Aller, with glacial valleys, moraines, morainic plains, heathland, moors and forrests. There are plenty of marked trails for hiking and bicycles rides.

Longtime Stay

If you are staying many days and will be traveling more around the area, then go to HVV center (Inside Central Station, easy to find...near the tourist information center), adn check out the rates for the no. of days you are staying. Probably you need to carry a passport size photo. Per month rate for Greater Hamburg area is around 84 EUR, which you can use it n no. of times for that month in U-Bhan (MEtro), S-Bhan (Sub Urbs), bus and the ferries on the Elbe. Sometimes the monthly pass is cheaper than everytime buying a ticket or for n no. days. The best part is, if you hold this monthly ticket, during weekends you can take another adult and 2 kids along with you for free.
Northern Style Cafe, Italian & Spanish Influences
by ericaj. about TARIFA
Decorated in the very clean, spartan, utilitarian style of coffeehouses in Northern Europe. The service, however, is warm and friendly, and in the evening candles are lit to soften the atmosphere. After about 7pm, the servers usually put on sensual Brazilian music or ambient acid jazz. A great place to have relaxed conversations with friends. In addition to the usual caffe lattes, and herbal teas....Tarifa offers delicious warm Italian panini sandwhiches.
For a relaxed evening conversing with a friend, try the Tapas Teller Mit Rotwein, the evening special of one bottle of red wine, served with a tapas appetizer plate for two for about 15 euro.
Port of Hamburg
by nepalgoods
The official beginning of the Port of Hamburg was in 1189, when Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa gave the right to hold markets to Hamburg. Now Hamburg is not only the biggest port in germany but also number 9 of all container-harbours in the world.
