Travel Hamburg to Amsterdam

by Ofelia_1979

I'd like to travel from Hamburg to Amsterdam and I'm looking for the cheap, fast and suitable way of travel, preferably by bus. If I arrive at sunday 07:00 morning to the aiport and I must come back to Hamburg at monday evening or (by night bus) tuesday early morning. Could you tell me how could I manage to do my trip? O maybe somebody knows some other ways to go there fast and cheap. Will be very grateful for you advices!
Thanks in advance!

It looks like you already worked out. I don't know why you prefer the bus? It takes usually about double as long as a train and the schedules of buses, on the connections where there are any at all, are rather limited (like 1 bus/day).

a) connecting flight?
Sadly no budget airline is operating between Hamburg and Amsterdam.
b) next fast: train (6-7 hrs)
DB timetable
From: Hamburg Flughafen
To: Amsterdam Centraal

Jasper Airport Express Bus (BusJaspe) Hamburg Airport to Hauptbahnhof is EUR 5,00.
Any other trip with local public transport in Hamburg (buses, U-Bahn, S-Bahn) is EUR 2,50.

c) cheap: if you can a discounted train ticket. They are e.g. available for return trips if you book in advance (at least 3 days).

d) bus:
Hamburg ZOB dep 13:30
Amsterdam Amstel arr 20:00
Amsterdam Amstel dep 23:15
Hamburg ZOB arr 07:00 (Tu)

Return ticket is EUR 67,00.

If your purpose is just to see Amsterdam: not worth with this poor travel time vs. sightseeing time relation.
Stick to Hamburg or visit nearby Lübeck (an UNESCO world heritage city)

Thanks a lot for your advices! YOu are really experts in this field! I have looked but they have only night bus at sunday, and I need to go early in the morning, maybe I can go back by this bus.
And trains are rather expensive, and also there are need to do several changes in germany, which I don't like...
Anyway thanks a lot for your help!

There are a lot of connections with only one change. Unless you have a lot of luggage it should not give you any problems.

Travel Tips for Hamburg

Christmas Markets

by yooperprof

Hamburg has wonderful Christmas markets. The food is excellent near the Alster Pavillion, there are good crafts in the Gänsemarkt, and throngs of people at the main market in front of the Rathaus. That's where this festive Advent Calendar counts off the days until Christmas.

Glühwein from Tallinn

by yooperprof

This stall in Altona's Christmas Market was selling Estonian Glüwein - and Vodka! It was a good place to pick up some information and maps about travelling in the Baltic Republics.

Tallinn - like Hamburg, a Hanseatic city - is definitely high on the list of places I want to visit. Maybe in 2007!

Hamburg with RyanAir

by Carletto76

RyanAir flights are very cheap, but often the airports they land into are not so close to the towns... And it's the same situation for Hamburg; what they call "flight to Hamburg" is a flight to the tiny airport of Lübeck, really close to this town, but at about 1h 30m with a coach to Hamburg.
Anyway RyanAir service is excellent and there is a special bus from Lübeck Blankensee to Hamburg (and vice-versa) for every RyanAir flight. The bus costs 8 euro.

Rote Grütze

by Kushelkitten

Rote Grütze is a typical northern German desert. Its made from various red berries such as strawberries, cherrys, raspberries, and currents which are stewed with sugar until almost a jelly like texture. This is then served with vanilla sauce.

Personally its not my favorite but its a nice change from rich torts and deserts.

A beautiful neighborhood

by Jmon

This area is just down the river from the harbor. It has beautiful houses tucked on the hill overlooking the river. It is highly recommended for a good seafood meal where you can watch the ships as they make their way to the harbor.
