Schanzenviertel

The Schanzenviertel district was my favourite part of Hamburg. We came across this area through our hotel being here, but it's worth visiting some of the excellent kneipe and restaurants in the area. There are no real traditional tourist sites here, it's just a pretty nice place to hang out.
S & U Bahn

You can see most of central Hamburg on foot though there is also the option of the S-Bahn or U-Bahn. It's a pretty efficient system as you'd expect in Germany though it is very tempting to board without buying tickets. We weren't asked for our tickets at all over the 3 days, though I think the fines can be heavy if you are caught. We only bought single tickets and these were Euro 1.50. It's better value to buy a day pass if you plan to make frequent use of the trains.

Not to be missed !!!!! The wursten pavillion along Jungfernstieg, few steps away from the Rathaus area.
Several kind of wursten; small remark: they do not sell any beer Wursten - wursten - wursten - people here seems to love especially the curry wursten but I definitely prefer my old dear friend BRATWURST.
Viewing Platform
by hb_capri
After seeing the church interiors and the crypted vault tour it was time to move up.You can either take the stairs or the elevator 9 floors up to the viewing platform. The view from there is brilliant and totally worth it! I wanted to stay for a long time but I went on a chilly Feb day and the wind was too much to bear beyond a few mins.
