Good choice for a centrally locate hotel!

    by

Hotel Novum is a good place to stay during a city trip in Hamburg. Located in the quarter of St. Georg, it is within walking distance of the train station in the restaurants of "Lange Reihe". The street where Novum is located is safe but surely not the most beautiful of Hamburg. There are many restaurants, middle eastern supermarkets, gamble halls and sex shops. Surely not the area to leave your children playing around, but it sounds worse than it really is. The interior of the hotel is very clean and surprises when you come from outside. Both staff members I saw at the reception were friendly.

Had a single room without bathroom (shared bathroom just a few steps away). Both, shared bathroom and room, were spotlessly clean. The bed was really comfortable and one of the factors speaking in favour of this places. Indeed, the only drawback were the relatively thin walls (noises from both neighbours' sinks were audible) and the fact that there was no light switch reachable from the bed. Didn't have any breakfast, but what I saw looked pretty good. Free WLAN connection is available in the room, though unfortunately it was only stable during nighttime. My room was located to the court side of the hotel which meant that the view was far away from being nice, but that you don't get any noise from the streets as well. If you can live with those little drawbacks mentioned (somewhat dodgy street, thin walls) you will get a good value for the price. There are few places which are clean, affordable and within walking distance for the sights in Hamburg city centre and if you are looking for a hotel fulfilling these kind of criteria, Novum is a good choice.

Directions: Close to the central train and central bus station

Hamburg to Copenhagen

by mh_uk

Hi, I'm looking for a cheap way to travel between Hamburg and Copenhagen. I'm aware of the Deutsche Bahn offers starting from 29 Euros and the Eurolines coach for 30 quid. Are there any other coach services between Hamburg and Copenhagen or any train offers that I'm not aware of so far?

Thanks !

There are no other coach services or train offers. Remember you will only get the prices if you book well in advance.

Only cheaper alternative is walk or cycle and pay €5 (€12 if bring a bicycle) for the ferry crossing.

eurolines have daily services by bus, but i doubt they are cheaper than 29 euros.

Ok, thanks for your answers. I was wondering because there are 4 different bus companies from Copenhagen to Berlin but obviously only one coach link between Copenhagen and Hamburg. Actually I considered taking the ferry from Luebeck (15 Euros), as I want to head on to Sweden anyway...but it takes 7 hours.

you don´t have the same strong competition on the copenhagen-hamburg route as you have on the copenhagen-berlin route.
the eurolines bus to hamburg mostly drives people down to hamburg so that they can switch to other busses around europe.
i changed bus there myself last year when i took the eurolines bus to paris.

This intriguing sculpture is in the median of the busy boulevard, Glockengiesserwall, in front of the Kunsthalle.

If you know anything about the artist or the piece, please drop me a line! thanks!

For The Young, Restless, and Ultra Fashionable

by ericaj. about Betty Ford Klinik

If you're in the mood to put on your designer duds and go grab a mojito, all to the pulse of very loud club music. Dress tends to be casual, but stylish. The more you look like one of the Veejays from MTV, or characters from Friends, or Sex In The City, the more you'll fit in with the type of young crowd that frequents the Klinik.

Something not so different ;-)

Well, if one is not that adventurous and am craving for something a little more familiar, there is always the perenial favourite of Beef burger and Chips.

Apparently, it was pretty good !! This is Beef burger with onion rings, asparagus wrapped in bacon with french fries ~ it was well received ;-)

St. Michaelis

by barbskie

Hamburg's famous landmark and one of the five main churches of Hamburg with its 132 meter high steeple. Also known as the "Michel".

It has its baroque style and Germany's most important Protestant church. It was consecrated in 1661 but totally destroyed in 1750 and in 1943.

The 453 steps are definitely worth climbing. But mind you, if you have fear of height, better take the elevator. Once you passed the lift level, there is no more possibility to take a ride. Either you go through or walk back. I did managed till its top level almost out of breath, but, i was rewarded with the fantastic views over the city and the harbour on sundowns. Worth doing!
