Getting around
by hb_capri
Hi,
Whats the best way to reach the Radisson Blu Hotel(Marseiller Str. 2, Zentrum - Neustadt, 20355 Hamburg) from the Airport? Arrival time 12:30 PM
Is Dammtor the closest station?
Is it possible to take the S Bahn (S1) from the airport to Dammtor? how much would it cost?
Thanks
Harsha

From (x) stop "Airport"
To (x) address "Marseiller Str. 2"
You can go there by S-Bahn, but you need to change trains once. Stay seated in Ohlsdorf. The train is there just coupled together with another S1 S-Bahn car. The change at Hamburg Hbf is from track 1 to 2 - same platform.
Single ticket is EUR 2,75.

thank u:) thats a very useful site.
i got the personal schedule as per you instruction. Just want clarity on one thing. you said from the Hauptbahnhof 'change from track 1 to 2 - same platform'.
The schedule shows take S21 (red) Dir -Elbgaustraße. Are these the same thing? are S1 and 21 on the same platform?

Yes. S1 arrives at track 1, S21 departs at track 2. Both tracks share the same platform. Otherwise would this with the same arrival and departure minute not work. But even if you miss a train, there is another one 10 minutes later.

Wow - they finally got that S-bahn track to the airport. Good to see. I haven't been back since I left in 2005.
To the original poster, almost all german train transfers within the same sort (ie S-Bahn to S-bahn or U-bahn to U-bahn) involve simply moving across the plaform from one train to the other.
They are usually coordinated so that they arrive close or at the sametime.

Re: Getting around

btw any idea how much the sane trip would cost by taxi?

From what I remember, a trip like that would cost around 30 euros, depending on the traffic. That was around 3 years ago. It is around 10k but has a fair amount of lights.

The Alster and its Canals
by S.Cunis
Right in the center of Hamburg you find the Alster lake. Here you can hire sailing boats and rowing boats.
Should you want to go sailing, you should keep in mind that the winds are treacherous! Due to the buildings around it, the wind often comes from unexspected directions!
You also can go canoeing through the upper Alster and its tributaries and their connecting canals. This gives lots of possibilities for nice relaxing tours. Boats can be hired at several places.
Having a Joke on the Reeperbahn
by St_Vincent about Joker Bar
Joker is primarily a cocktail bar and restaurant although they did have a selection of beers and we got drawn in by the mention of a Sports Bar and the sight of a large screen showing football. Although they advertise themselves as a Sports Bar they did seem fairly intolerant to any singing, cheering or indeed anyone who seemed to be having any fun at all. All of our activity was closely monitored by an Amazon like Frauline behind the bar who at one stage physically frogmarched one of our party outside just for pulling a cigarette out of his pocket. They do have a smoking room on the second floor and if you are drinking cocktails then you can get them for €5.50 during ‘happy hours’ which are 6pm to 9pm and 11pm to 1am daily.
Schanzenviertel (Schanzen quarter),
by Rupanworld
this is a quarter where you come across lots of Portuguese cafes and bars and mini restaurants with people sitting for long and chatting. My friend told me that this is a place in Hamburg where generally the young group of boys and girls hang out (and this is very close to Reeperbahn!!!). Can just check out the cafes here.

it's one of the biggest habors in europe and very exciting and interessting. There are also some good restaurants and pubs and the Fishmarket!
