Hotels in the Dammtorpalais
The Dammtorpalais is a Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) building from the year 1905, located about 400 meters from the Dammtor railway station near the campus of Hamburg University.
There are five small hotels in this building, the Hotels Preuß, Bellmoor, Fresena, Amsterdam and Wagner. Also there is a café around to the side on the ground floor and in the garden. (And there is an office of some sort of Icelandic export company, also on the ground floor.)
On my visit to Hamburg in 2011 I stayed at the Hotel Preuß, which is on parts of the fourth and fifth floors (if I remember correctly) of the building. For a single room with breakfast I paid 237 Euros for three nights, which comes out to 79 Euros per night. The hotel was very pleasant, breakfast was fine and the people who work there were friendly and helpful.
On a previous visit I stayed at one of the other hotels in the same building (Wagner, I think, or Bellmoor) and in 2004 I stayed at a similar hotel in the same neighborhood, the Hotel Garni am Dammtor. These were all very pleasant. The neighborhood is quiet and very convenient.
And now there is even a large StadtRAD bicycle sharing station right in front of the Dammtorpalais (fourth photo).
