The Intercity Hotel in the Altona district has a less than picturesque setting between a Shopping Centre and a Railway Station. This does however mean it has a convenient location for getting to and for getting around the city as it is next to both the long distance train station and the Altona S-Bahn station. The rooms are small but functional with TV, writing desk and a well stocked mini bar. The walk in shower in the bathroom was OK but perhaps not built for the larger man. The bed was comfortable and the whole room was very clean and had a new feel to it. Don’t be fooled by mention of a hotel bar, it is essentially just part of the reception desk that has a couple of beer taps and a selection of bottles and service depends upon one of the reception staff not being engaged elsewhere. Breakfast is buffet style and there was a good selection of foods available. All in all it’s a fairly basic hotel but good value and I’d recommend it for it’s location.
An added bonus was that the price of the room included a free Hamburg transport pass for the duration of our stay.
