Great Location for Shopping

We chose to stay at the Hamburg Marriott Hotel as it was close to the Congress Center where my husband was attending a conference. The hotel was very well maintained even though it did not have a contemporary design and feel to it.The staff and concierge were very helpful. The best part about this hotel is its location. It is walking distance to most of the attractions and also a great base for shopping. The only down side is that the breakfast was not included in the room rate.

Excellent Comfort in a Prime Location

Interesting how some hotels that are billed as 4* properties really don't quite fit the bill. Well, the Marriott really does fit the bill - I think this is as fine a 4* as you'll find anywhere.

I was able to get a great rate through Priceline to stay here - otherwise it would have far out of my normal range of accomodation. (Internet rates here are usually around $220 US a night.) Things started out well when I was treated very well at the check-in counter, and given a room that was in no-way one of those "Priceline specials" that certain hotel chains assign you. My room was quite large by European standards, with two comfortable double-beds and an excellent street view. The beds were firm, well-sheeted, and supremely inviting - just what a busy VT traveller wants when returning after a full day of experiences.

Good central hotel

Good hotel about a 5 minute walk from the Rathaus....Nice room, pleasant front desk people...workout room is small but they do have a pool. Overall quality hotel that I have since stayed at again.

Marriott

Euros 159-235 depending on room type as at 06 Aug 02

Unique Quality: This is a tremendous hotel 5 star with the standards of comfort and service you would expect. Location is excellent with the Alster, buses and underground stops all withiin 2-6 minute walks.

Not far to the Alster Pavilion where you can get good value for money buffet breakfast.

I am due to stay here on 10 Aug 02 for 4 nights. On my return I will add my impressions here , but for now from the web:

This was the first Marriott in Germany, and it remains the showpiece - from the extraordinary barrel-roof ceiling of the reception area to the expansive comfort of its guest rooms. The rooms' modern green furniture isn't particularly inspired, but you do get amenities such as pay-per-view TV and modem and fax lines. The hotel has a central location - an unbeatable spot on Hamburg's Gänsemarkt, in one of the best shopping areas. The hotel's aptly named American Place is one of the better city-center restaurants. The health club is one of the most modern in northern Germany. 277 rooms, 5 suites. Restaurant, room service, in-room data ports, minibars, pool, gym, hair salon, massage, sauna, bar, piano bar, baby-sitting, dry cleaning, laundry service, concierge, business services, meeting room, parking (fee), no-smoking rooms.
