Restaurant Schanzenstern - has anybody eaten there?

by christine.j

I've looked for organic restaurants in Hamburg and found the Schanzenstern. The reviews are rather mixed, from excellent to unfriendly and far too expensive.Since they don't show any prices for dinner on their webpage, I have no idea how expensive "too expensive" is.The price for their lunch menu seems reasonable.
I did a keyword search on VT, but found only reviews of the hotel.
Has anybody been to the restaurant?

Yes, I was there for breakfast which was pretty good. No high cuisine, but organic and as far as I rembember everything was fresh and good. They also have a cute yard where you can sit outside in summertime. I think it was around 8 Euro that I paid. So fine, I would say. I am not sure about their menues, but I think it is a nice place. When I was there it was not too crowded in Schanzenviertel. If you do not like the place you find many other options where else to go, too. Frank und Frei, Omas Apotheke (both rather student places with mixed meals), you find two Bok restaurants (Asian cuisine and sushi - last one often is crowded so be early or do a reservation).
Best Chris.

Thanks very much. I've been to Hamburg in the meantime, but I'll be back, so I'll keep this for future visits. This time we had mostly fish and I never made it to the Schanzenstern. Next time!

FC St Pauli

by weewatty

Went along to the home of the pretty infamous FC St Pauli for a look round.

A real quirky stadium with a capacity of around 20,000, amzingly FC St Pauli are still averaging crowds of approx. 17,000 in Regionalliga Nord.

The supporters are well known for their left wing sympathies, and often refered to as anarchists by opposing fans.

Tickets for matches are, I beleive, rather hard to come by, but the weekend we were there they were playing away from home.

A great club shop can be found at the stadium selling a vast array of merchandise, most of which emblazoned with the FC St Pauli badge, comprising of a Skull & Crossbones.

An extremely unique stadium, well worth a visit for the dedicated football follower and only a mere stagger from the Reeperbahn

MY FIRST NOTE ON VT - BEFORE BECOMING A MEMBER

by STEFZAMM about St. Pauli and Reeperbahn

"I went to Hamburg for training so basically I was stuck in an office all day.... then 2 lovely people wanted to give me a good night out... it was amazing too many pubs too many discos too many people .. and everyone well geared up to party.. all in one big place... very big I can say compared to back home.. a very small island : ) ... thanks Fanny & Susheel ... will definetely remember that night out xx STFMLT010481" --- THIS IS NOT MY DESCRIPTION OF THE REEPERBAHN ... THIS WAS THE FIRST NOTE THAT I HAD LEFT ON VT BEFORE ACTUALLY BECOMING A MEMBER. IT WAS MY THANKYOU NOTE FOR TWO SPECIAL PERSONS WHO HAVE LEAD MY WAY THROUGH THE REEPERBAHN..... Cloths are not an issue... there's so much to see for anyone to notice what you're wearing.
My suggestion is to be comfortable so you can enjoy the night ... and if not a local.. & it's winter ..make sure you wear loads of cloths.. as it's usually freezing.

A Chinese Restaurant on the...

by germanyamy

A Chinese Restaurant on the Reeperbahn. I've forgotten the name, but it's on a corner and the corner next to it has an Esso store on it. A tip from a resident, who couldn't remember the name either. Great service and food, and will modify a dish for you if you don't see something you like.

Exciting Speicherstadt

by photo-man

One particularly eventful and excitingly structured museum is the Hamburg Dungeon. 2,000 years of history from the great Hamburg fire to the pirate Stoertebeker await visitors in the old walls of the Speicherstadt warehouse district. A spectacular aquatic journey based on the terrible storm tide of 1717 allows visitors to experience the power of the wind and the floods.
Next door, things are drier but no less exciting: Miniaturwunderland in Hamburgs Speicherstadt features one of the largest model railways in the world. More than 450 trains with a total of 7,000 carriages and countless trees, figures, cars, platforms, houses and bridges make up an incredibly realistic model landscape. Train movements are controlled in fully digital form by computer, and a distinction is even made between day and night.
