For Indians in Hamburg
by Rupanworld
For those Indians who are in Hamburg during the festival season of Durga Puja and Diwali, here's something you can try to visit. There's an Indian community in Hamburg that celebrates Durga Puja and other festvals every year and the location is at Berner Heerweg at Farmsen-Berne. The puja's and the community meetings take place at Haus der Jugend Farmsen, and is a great experience. It is very easy to reach the place by U-Bahn. Take U1 and get down at Farmsen. The Haus der Jugend is just 10 stairs away. We were here during the Durga Puja festival (Navami & Dashami) 2007 and got a warm welcome and real good Indian food at the end of everyday.
St.Pauli Football Team
by Carletto76
If you are fond of football you cannot miss a visit to St.Pauli's Millerntor Stadion and the nearby official shop of this old and nice "white and brown" football team! Unfortunately it's a bad period for FC St.Pauli, down in German 3rd Division (Regional-Liga Nord), but let's hope for a better future!
The shop is really great, you can find anything about St.Pauli: t-shirts, scarfs, sweaters, tee-cups... and, of course, condoms! ;-)
Cozy Jazz Club
by yooperprof about Kultur Laden
Kultur Laden is a neighborhood jazz/world music club in the St. Georg neighborhood, located on the popular "Lange Reihe". The club is in on the ground floor of its building, and everyone has a good view. Drinks are inexpensive, too!
I came here to listen to some Klezmer music from local and Dutch musicians - excellent!
Fresh funky food
by wctryltd about Elbe
Located in a nice quite neighborhood - visiting the elbe will make you feel like a local. You are far away from tourists - instead surrounded by the local fun crowd looking for a good night out. The elbe has a great bar in the front that you walk through to get to a small restaurant in the back. Funky retro looking decor. I have a plum sauce pork dish that was ver very good. They have a prix fixe meal that you order by number of courses. Go for the 4 course meal!
PRECISE AND MASSIVE - WHAT I CALL ARCHITECTURE
by STEFZAMM
This is a massive building and probably one of the main architectural attractions in Hamburg. My walk towards the Chilehaus was full of descriptive adjectives, when I actually got there I agreed that all of those adjectives applied.
The Chilehause or the 'big ship' for it has the shape of a massive ship was built in the 20th century by the German architect Fritz Hoeger.
It is very centrally located and close to many office buildings, shops and other businesses.
The Chilehause.. definetely a must see when in Hamburg...
