Hi everybody!!!

by vedun666

Me and my friends arriving to airport Hamburg(lubeck),if anyone could advise how could we get to Kiel from there. What would be the easyest and cheapest way to get to Kiel. How many km from airport to Kiel. Thanks in advance:)))

the easiest way would be to get a bus into town (to Lübeck that is, not really anything to do with Hamburg...). When you get to the train station get a train over to Kiel... you can check train times here: http://www.bahn.de/-S:PtVORN:eY8Y49NNja0tAtNNNUxM/p/view/international/englisch/international_guests.shtml

Bus to Lübeck Hbf, from there by train to Kiel.

Single ticket is EUR 13,75.
A mini group day ticket (2-5 persons) is EUR 26,70. This ticket is however on weekdays only valid past 9am.

These tickets cover the bus from the airport to Lübeck Hbf, the regional trains to Kiel. And also the buses in Kiel.
Lübeck airport to Hbf ~ 20 min.
RE trains Lübeck Hbf to Kiel ~ 1,25 hrs

Travel Tips for Hamburg

Drink the local Beer - Astra

by weewatty

Whilst in Hamburg i would have to confess to drinking my fair share of the fine local beer, Astra.

A refreshingly light lager which is readily available and relatively inexpensive throughout Hamburg.

The consequences of having say 5 or 6 pints show that although light tasting the alcoholic content may be quite high.

Check out their rather bizarre website, better if you speak German but still amusing regardless.

When you have more time in Hamburg during the summer you should make a weekend or daytrip to the island Sylt in the northern sea.
I used to do this with friends nearly every summer at least once. The German Railway has a 'weekend tickets' for 35,- DM that you can use with more than one person ( I think max is 5 people, so everyone 5,- DM) and the train takes ~3 hours one way.

You arrive in Sylt 10 minutes walk from the beach and you have time to swim in the sometimes huge waves and lay on the beach or what we used to do is rent a Strandkorb 'Beach-Basket' so that you are protected from the sometimes strong wind. (See the picture below) We have lots to eat for a picknick and I always enjoy these days very much.

Normally it is the best to use the public transport(bus, tube and ship). But you should not miss to take a car and drive over the Köhlbrandbrücke(see at the picture). You have a wonderful viwe over the harbour and the city.

Essen und Trinken

Essen und Trinken
This market hall kind of place offers all nationalities. Chinese, Italian, Greek, German and Asian cuisines are here under one roof. It´s cheap and good. Good for a lunch break during shopping..... Chicken in hot chili sauce

Exactly how it should look...

When it comes to building Train stations, the Germans certainly know what they are doing.

Unlike many of the great train station buildings that are Terminals, Hamburg's tracks all run through, so trains may come in from either direction. The S-Bahn trains arrive on two tracks in almost perfect sychronicity (as onlth the Germans, the Swiss and the Japanese can), whilst splendid ICE (super fast trains) draw-in or pull-out in an almost stately way.

It is almost as if the whole scene has has been built for the vistor to admire as a full-scale counterpart to the 'Minature wonderland' (see other tip). I would suggest that the row of high stools in Mcdonalds might well be the best place to get a good view of this bustling scene.

With most city-centre shops closed on a Sunday, the 75 shops that have been fitted into the high-roofed building make the station a good place to visit if you need a shopping fix on the sabbath.
