We have choose this accomodation because it seemed to be very close to the Rin Fall (fantastic fall situated on the border between Germany and Switerland). It is indeed close and very romantic. On a huge grass field there is a wooden cottage with red flowers at the windows. The location is fantastic, woods and green fields, the owners very nice, the food is done by the lady owner (she can cook even fresh fish from their own pond) and is very good and fresh. We have spent here a nice afternoon, a very quite night and left the place with the certitude that one day we will come back.

This is a lovely Motel Autobahnraststätte located on the outskirts of the city of Hamburg with basic amenities for overnight motorists. Continental breakfast is charged separately. This unique motel is quite new and impressive, it has to be said! It is a favourite motel for motorists travelling between the Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Norway and Denmark and continental European cities such as Paris and Amsterdam. This was where my wife and I stayed on our first night in Germany. After all the places we've stayed this one stands out as the nicest. We stayed on the top floor in what seemed more like a spacious apartment than hotel room. Very clean...very nice bathroom. If you can get a room here I wouldn't hesitate. If you stay in this town you MUST visit the Babble a Pub. The bartender/entertainer Ziggy is like a lovable charactor out of a Seinfeld episode.

.. and non-refundable. I searched google to find something comparable for other countries but was not successful. But if there is something similar existing in a country, please let me know! Thanks!! Regular visitors to Germany might know about this already: Kurtaxe or visitor’s tax. This has nothing to do with the VAT and is thus not refundable. It is a tax every visitor has to pay in specific holiday regions like the northern coasts or Bavaria or any specific spa/cure/treatment/resortlike city, i.e. the ones that have Bad (= bath, spa) as a prefix or somewhere hidden in their name: Bad Dürkheim, Bad Reichenhall, Bad Pyrmont, Bad Vilbel, etc or Baden-Baden, Wiesbaden. Some health resorts don’t have this prefix at all, so it can get quite confusing to know if the town one is visiting is actually a health resort. Wikipedia has lists of these towns, but the English list of health resorts isn’t complete, so better check the German list of health resorts. The idea behind this tax is that these cities have set up and built several facilities for visitors like swimming pools with treatment possibilities, beaches with services (like beach chairs, showers, toilets) or similar things. Typical visitor tax per day is between 2,60 and 1,50 €, sometimes there is also a daily tax/fee for dogs.
Please see VTer's Don (@Nemorino) description of the term Bad = spa, he has the better words :-) Theme: Other

by flyinamber The Swisshotel, just a few steps off the Kudamm, is perfectly located to use as a base to explore Berlin. Modern, clean, efficient yet friendly, the hotel's service, facilities and amenities are second to none. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone. Located in a quietish business/residential area, shops and restaurants are close by. Access to transport couldn't be easier - Zoo station is less than 5 minutes walk away.
Staff and service - superb. Location - excellent. Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Swisshotel, Augsburger Strasse 44, BerlinPhone: +49 30 220 100Directions: West Berlin city centre

It wasn't bad. My friend and I were able to get a room just to ourselves, so that we didn't have to share it with strangers. The fact that you are actually staying in a castle is just awesome. Just so you know that what I'm saying here is true, take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Castle at the bottom of the HISTORY section, you can see that it says "Today, the emperor's old mews is used as a youth hostel." That's where we stayed. We didn't have reservations at all, we just walked to the front desk and got a room for a few nights. There were some great places to eat within just a couple blocks, as well. It was a fun time, and reasonably priced as I recall.
It's a castle...need I say more? Theme: HostelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Northern part of old town, Nurnberg

In Germany, you have a huge selection of where to put your head in the nights. You can stay at (German terms in bold and words explained in italics): Hotel, often classified by stars, see collection of hotels Germanwide Pension = similar like B&B (pension = small hotel), Bed and breakfast collection (1) , Bed and breakfast collection (2) , or, if you want to stay in style, why not stay in castles Zimmer mit Frühstück = similar like mix between guesthouse and B&B (someone rents a room = Zimmer or more, Frühstück = breakfast), Jugendherberge = Youth Hostel, where everyone can stay, but discount is given to owners of an international hostel pass; Youth Hostels in Germany or backpackers in Germany Campingplatz = camp ground, for tents and RVs. Now this is also something, you should not miss – Ferien auf dem Bauernhof = holiday on farms, perfect for kids. You can be sure to get homemade food as well ! Two websites will provide you with what you might look for: collection of farm houses to stay at (now also in English and French), Agritourism in Germany
The abbreviations mean: Rooms: EZ = Einzelzimmer = single room; DZ = Doppelzimmer = double room; Bad = bath(room), usually with shower = Dusche, WC stands for water closet or toilet. Note that prices for double rooms are very often given per person (and not per room)! Usually, breakfast is included in the room price, if not noted otherwise. This would read then inkl. Frühstück = breakfast included. By now, a lot of hotels do offer buffet style breakfast, with continental and US selection. In rural regions, you’ll mostly get a typical breakfast with bred or rolls, butter, jam, cheese and cold cuts. This is a short summary of what you also can read extensively in the website below. Update January 2009: exchange of links only (some websites added English versions in the meantime)
