Baden-Baden Casino is situated in the Kurhaus. The Kurhaus was converted from a Promenade House into a "Conversation House" between 1821 and 1824 by Freidrich Weinbrenner. Upon completion, a license was issued for a Casino to be operated on the premises, and it now makes up the right wing of the building.
The casino is the largest and oldest in Germany, and one of the most renouned and magnificent in the world.
Minimum bets are 5Eur, maximum 10,000Eur, but if you prefer to keep your money in your pocket you can always take a guided tour. Tours of the Casino are available daily from 9:30am until 11:30 between April and September, and from 10:00am until 11:30 between October and March. Prior arrangement should be made for tours in English, French and Russian.
The German-American coffee magnate Hermann Sielcken (1850-1917), who was an honorary citizen of Baden-Baden since 1910 and one of the biggest supporters of the city, donated this construction. Max Laeuger designed it between 1909 and 1912 with a huge fountain as its centre according to the model of they symmetrically layed-out French gardens. The construction was named after the Lord Mayour of Baden-Baden Albert Goenner.

Baden-Baden is famous for its thermal baths so of course, when we visited the city we had to visit Caracalla Therme. It was worth the time. Entry fee was €15 for 3 hours, including the lockers. Now, I can't remember if towels were included. Massages were extra (from €25 up) and has to be within the paid use time of the bath. So if the massage takes 30 minutes, you have 30 minutes less to spend in the pools.
There were several pools with differing water temperatures. Upstairs was sunbathing area. I went looking for my hubby upstairs when I didn't see him in any of the pools. To my amazement, everyone was in the nude! I am not a prude by any means, but that scene was just uncomfortable for me. It didn't matter what body size and shape they were all exposed. Needless to say, I ran down the steps as fast I could. :)
We were not able to get in the game table part of the casino as we didn't know a tie was required. We were able to get in the slot machine side.
The famous Casino in the Kurhaus of Baden-Baden is open for gambling every day from 2 p.m.: roulette, poker, black jack and all those games I have no idea of. Take care of the contents of your purse.
An excellent opportunity for people watching even if you don't want to risk your own money. Formal dress (men: jacket and tie) is required.
In the mornings the fancy rooms can be visited with guided tours (no dress code). The lush interiors are worth seeing even when there is no gambling going on.
