A Wander Down the Main Street
by Ujamaflip
Baden-Baden is full of exclusive boutiques, gift shops, and other shops. Generally the prices tend to be a little high, with the products being aimed either at unsuspecting tourists, or rich locals. Nevertheless, it is a pleasant stroll through the winding cobbled streets and alley ways, and even more enjoyable to sit outside, enjoying a coffee, and watching the world passing by.
Convent Of The Holy Sepulchre
by Kathrin_E
The Kloster zum Heiligen Grab (Convent of the Holy Sepulchre) was founded by Margrave Leopold Wilhelm in the late 17th century. The baroque church of St Joseph got a new facade in neo-baroque style in 1895.
Some 10 or 15 years ago the convent was closed down, the last nuns moved to an old people's home. The furniture and everything was sold in an auction and is gone for good. The school the nunnery ran is still in operation. The convent buildings are empty.
Spas and Thermal Springs
by Russell_the_Wombat
"Trinkhalle"
The "Drinking Hall" has been built above one of the thermal springs for the sole purpose of drinking water. People are walking, chatting and watching each other while drinking the water.
Come on, let's go in.
The hall has a very long shady porch where one can walk up and down while sipping the water, chatting and people-watching.
To make this activity less boring, they have painted a whole lot of pictures on the wall. These show scenes from old legends and tales from the Black Forest. Unfortunately you need someone who knows the stories. Bad luck for a little Aussie.
The water from the spring is free to take if you have a bottle or a cup. If not, you can buy a cup there.
The ladies at the counter gave me a very funny loook, so I did not dare try the water.
"Fettquelle"
There is another hot spring, however, which is outdoors and free and not watched by any ladies behind any counters. However, it is not advisable to drink right from the tap. The water is about 60°C hot.
I got to try it from the bottle when it had cooled down a bit. It smelled strange and tasted strange. Probably because it is sooooo healthy!
