Baiersbronn: Hotel Falken: Good hotel in the centre of the Black Forest

It is a family-run hotel with good value for the money. They offer ample rooms, all with balcony and view into the mountains. Single rate was 45 EUROS (Apr. 2010) incl. good breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Kitchen offers local dishes - good portions - at reasonable prices. Located a little outside the city of Baiersbronn it is a good starting point to explore the Black Forest.

Gasthof zur Linde: Swabian Charm in a cosy atmosphere

I spent some time in Dobel (both business and pleasure) and the "Linde" (this is how the locals call it) has always been my preferred home away from home. The owners - the Ruff family - are very welcoming and nice. The owner apparently is also the chef in the enclosed restaurant. After all meals have been served he makes his round from table to table, sits down with the guests, chats, and makes everyone feel welcome.

The rooms are very clean and basic, but offer everything you need: Shower & Toilet, TV, Closet, etc.

During my last stay I have been told that they are implementing wireless internet in all rooms as well.

What I like most about the Linde is the view from the rooms. On sunny days you can overlook the Black Forest and Karlsruhe. Very romantic! :)

Oh and the food is very yummy too! The guesthouse is popular with locals, too! Every night people gather up at the "Stammtisch", drink beers and chat with tourists. Quite an insider access! :)

- Wonderful view from the room
- very nice innkeepers
- yummy food
- get close to locals
- superb hiking
- close to nature
- great breakfast

Camping at Barfusspad,Muggenbrunn: Black Forest Camping

This campsite is situated just off the main road through the Black Forest although I did not notice the sound of the cars. We stayed here in early June 2008 so i presume the digger going past our tents for a few hours in the afternoon was for works in preparation for the summer season. I wouldn't have minded so much had my dear friend Suet not been driving all day & just wanted some rest. That aside this campsite was in a great position although it tended to cater more for mobile caravans rather than tents - to say that the pitches we were given was on rocky ground would have been an understatement!!

The facilities were excellent, the reception area consisted of tourist information and a cafe selling food & drink aswell as a small range of camping items. The shower and toilet blocks were very clean indeed although beware of the cleaning woman - woe betide you if you want to go into the shower/toilet block when she's cleaning them!!

The countryside surrounding the campsite is stunning and there are numourous waymarked walking trails to follow.

Spiffing countryside.

Hotel Rappen: in Freiburg

Hotel Rappen is a good choice for all tourists, who are looking for a hotel that is centrally located in the city of Freiburg. It is a bit hard to find your way to this hotel, when you want to get there by car, so many different one-ways and restrictions to be considdered, BUT finally I found the right way to drive my mother to Hotel Rappen and she enjoyed her stay in that hotel very much !

For me it was important to know, that some of the 34 rooms are equipped with anti-allergic furniture and bed-ware.
W-LAN Internet is free of charge in all rooms !!!

Flugplatz-Hotel-Concorde: in Donaueschingen

Flugplatz-Hotel-Concorde in Donaueschingen is a great place to stay close to Schwarzwald / Black Forest, when you arrive on the highway via Stuttgart and Villingen-Schwennigen. That airport is much too small for a Concorde and other larger airplanes, so the noises are almost non-existant. At least we did not hear anything from planes landing or departing, this airport is mainly used by sports-pilots and maybe some extra flights for smaller business-airplanes.

I once needed a hotel urgently in that area, when I was travelling with my mother and this hotel was directely on the road to Schwarzwald. The rooms were great just as the breakfast-buffet and I may highly recommend this place to everyone !
I payed 67,- euros for the single-room with private facilities, breakfast-buffet included
a double is 98,- euros

Parkhotel Adler in Hinterzarten: a luxury-hotel

Parkhotel Adler in Hinterzarten is the most confortable luxury hotel in Black Forest and it dates back to the year 1446 and always was in the posession of the same family since that time. The hotel has a wide spa- and wellness-area, an excellent restaurant and a wide park around of the buildings. the path that you may see on my pictures is a public path, where everybody may walk through !

Parkhotel Adler in Hinterzarten has lots of famous guests in its guest-book :
Ibn Saud, former king of Saudi Arabia, Albert II, king of Belgium, Chavier Solana, Supertramp, Chris de Burgh, Tina Turner, Globetrott...
well, I once applied for a job there, but finally I decided to take another joboffer instead.

Hotel Schwarzwaldhof: my favorite in Hinterzarten

Hotel Schwarzwaldhof is a great hotel in the very centre of Hinterzarten and this is the place, where my mother mostly stayed a few nights when we had been in Black Forest. They have a great restaurant with local specialities and an excellent breakfast-buffet.

I was really glad to see that this old traditional hotel had a lift, so it was easy for my mother to get to her room on 2nd floor. The noises of the trainline next to the hotel are not so bad, all trains are going slow there and there seems to be some extra noise-protection as well and of course most of the hotelrooms are facing the other direction anyway.

Feldberger Hof: Sleeping on Feldberg

When we hiked on Feldberg, we saw that hotel. Seems to be a sport hotel. They offer a lot of fun things there. If you go there in winter, don't forget your ski. You can do skiing just in front of the door!

Hotel Engel: Ski region

I wanted to book there a room, but we have been too late. It was complete. But I am sure I will go there one day.

Seems that they have also a wellness offer there. And for skiing and hiking it seems to be an excellent place.

Berghotel Wiedener Eck: Great view

Wiedener Eck is a hotel where we stayed in november. So we wanted to have pool and also a sauna for the bad weather (which we didn't have).
It is on the top of the mountains, just between the Muenstertal and the Wiesenthal. From there, you can hike to Belchen in about 2,5 h or even to the Feldberg.

The owner is an excellent cook. . He creates fantastic local food.
