Himmelreich (heaven) is close to hell-valley
by globetrott
Himmelreich (heaven) is a small village at the end of Höllental (hell-valley), when you take the train towards Freiburg. It obviously got that strange name not so much for the heavenly surroundings, but maybe simply because it was a lot better than the hard and dangerous path through the hell-valley and was considdered maybe a heavenly end to all the tortures.
Even today, when you have taken the steep road through the Höllental with plenty of heavy trucks you might be happy to be back on ordinary streets.
The village itself has NO places of interest for the ordinary tourist, except maybe the funny name of the village at the station
It is just a pity, that the station looks just like a Sprayer's heaven...
Freiburg im Breisgau - 15km west of Breitnau
by globetrott
Freiburg im Breisgau is one of the most beautiful towns in Germany, but mostly it is totally over-seen by the tourists, although it has plenty of great old buildings and a lovely historic centre. When walking through Freiburg, make sure to search for the "Bächle" , it is a system of tiny artificial rivers - just about 30cm wide and 10 cm deep - just big enough to step inside accidentially, while crossing the street. The water comes from a natural small river, that was totally replaced by these artificial waterways in the centre of town and led back to its natural bed outside of the centre again. Freiburg im Breisgau is just about 15km west of Breitnau.

Breitnau is a small village in the black Forest .
It was always an important place , where travellers had to come through, when travelling there.
Goethe, princess Marie Antoinett and many other famous travellers have been there ahead of me...
