Taste the ice-cream! it is excellent!I especially liked the spagetti-ice which is basically ice-cream that is made to look like spagetti! There are loads of ice-cream bars around, os you'll certainly be able to get one I have a German penfriend, and i was visiting, so that's my fondest memory. It was strange seeing the trams in the middle of the road though!
Baechle
by globetrott
Baechle is the local expression for a tiny river and also for this interesting system of tiny artificial "waterways", that you will find running through the centre of Freiburg. These Baechle are just about 30cm wide and 5-10 cm deep, big enough to step inside accidentially, while crossing the street. The water comes from a natural small river, that was totally replaced by these artificial waterways in the centre of town and led back to its natural bed outside of the centre again.
Stepping in is not so very dangerous, your shoes will get wet, BUT NOT filled with water, the bigger problem is that you might stumble and fall, so be carefull !
Girls lets play Basketball
by Loeffle
The Freiburg "Icebirds" are one of the main sports attractions of town. Since 2000 they play in the highest German division and increased their performances ever since.
They play in a tiny hall, but the average crowd in Freiburg is top of the league (1,000). The atmosphere is great and very cozy. The parents of the players bake cake and sell it during the games - come early to get your piece of it :)
The season goes from october to april. Dont expect some fake NBA show, but girls who like their sports and do their best :)
Walking on the traces of J.W.von Goethe
by globetrott
"" Fels im Höllental " (a rock in Hoellental) is one of the famous drawings of Geheimrat Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and he made this drawing not far from Freiburg im Breisgau.
Goethe was not only a famous author and poet, but also a lawyer, working for the governement in Weimar and one of his favorite hobbies was travelling.
In 1779 he got the title "Geheimrat" and in that same year he stayed some days in Hofgut Sternen in Breitnau.
Directely opposite of Hofgut Sternen in Breitnau you may still see the house, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe spent the night in september 29th, 1779 and nowadays it is still used as depandance of the hotel, so you may rent a room inside that building.
Bicycle Loop Trail: Seepark
by Nemorino
Towards the end of the Loop Trail, in the western part of the city, it goes through the Seepark (Lake Park) in the Mooswald district.
This is a popular place for strolling, jogging and swimming, and is also the site of the Freiburg Ecology Station.
