Heidelberg on a budget

I opted to stay at the Ibis in Heidelberg for four nights at the end of November 2010. The hotel was clean, bright and airy and the staff were polite and helpful. Most staff were multilingual and wore badges to show what languages they spoke. My room was very much what you would expect from a budget chain- neutral in colour with minimal luxuries, but clean and compact. The hotel is situated very close to the train station which was ideal for daytrips, the short train journey across the city and catching the train to and from the airport. The location is a little out of the centre, however, it is only about a 10 or 15 minute walk to the Hauptstrasse so I decided to either walk or take the train to the centre of the city. I would definitely use this hotel chain again.

Unique Quality: Ideal for transport links.

Surprisingly good

This was our first time in Ibis-hotel, and we didn´t expect it to be so nice. In this same trip we were supposed to go to Ibis-hotel in Zürich also, but there was some problem with our reservation, and man at the reseption was very rude, so we had two totally different experiences about this chain,in same week. But maybe we will go to Ibis again. Even if I haven´t got my A-club card two months after the trip, even if it was promised to be sent.

Rooms were nice and clean, toilet little small, but everything worth the money. Maybe we had thought it would be closer to old town, but luckily the weather was nice, so it was o.k. to walk.
One thing I missed was the fridge, but on the other hand.. It was a cheap room!
The wifi was poor, terribly slow!

Unique Quality: Free parking!

Handy to the Hauptbahnhof

We chose to stay four nights at the Ibis Heidelberg because it was so handy to the Hauptbahnhof and because we were familiar with the chain having recently used Ibis in France. At first I was a little concerned that our room, which overlooked part of the railway station, may be too noisy but that was not the case - the sound proofing worked well.
We know what to expect with Ibis. Clean , small rooms. Standard layout ; no frills; with a comfortable bed, good linen and adequate bathroom with approachable plumbing fittings.
Importantly air-conditioning and bathroom heating is provided.
Breakfast (€9,50 each) is not included in the tariff of approx. €80 per night per double room. Room rate may be lower at weekends. Ask!
Wireless connectivity to the net is available and there is a free to use computer hooked to broadband in the lounge near reception but it's hard to get to use it -- too many hoggers.

Unique Quality: Probably the greatest asset is location. Only a few steps away from the main transport hub.

Hotel on Railway Station

Hotel is situated in good place, close to the railway station. If you get the backside window, you may see only the roofs of the railway station.

THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM.......

A real Ibis place: when you have seen one you have seen them all and....you know they are always OK and have also cheap rooms.

The earlier you book the cheaper you can get one, which can be of importance.

Like most Ibis hotels this too is near the Railway Station in Heidelberg.....no taxicabs needed....

Pass herr Muck and you're almost there (see my traveloge to discover who herr Muck was!)

Unique Quality: You can be sure of what you get for your money: a clean room, clean and good beds, shower and toilet, color TV and telephone and a very good breakfast buffet.....

Atmosphere is always relaxed and staff is friendly!

NEWS: there are two new Inis Hotels directly near the Airport: one in Hamburg and one in K?ln Porz Airport.
