Campsites in Heidelburg
by deanjdavies
Hello, Myself and three friends will be travelling in a full circle round germany in our motorhome for 2 weeks during the world cup. I have seen pictures of this part of the country online and would really love to stay there. Up to now I have only found one campsite in Heidelburg but they have yet to contact me. Any recommendations?

There is only one campsite in Heidelberg

Some more campsites in the region

most of them are in the Neckar valley, not far from the S-Bahn trains to Heidelberg.
With a motorhome you could e.g. use the camper pitching area in Mosbach

Just a few meters to the S-Bahn station from there.
Travel Tips for Heidelberg
The first thing people notice...
by clairo
The first thing people notice about Heidelberg is the Castle. Yes it is big and yes it is beautiful, but there is quite a bit to see and do besides the castle. If you were to do one other thing, wander down the Hauptstrasse. This is the main street leading up to castle, it is a pedestrian only cobble-stone street lined with all sorts of shops, bars, restaurants and galleries. This main street can be somewhat commercial and has become more so in the past years, but it is still a great way to spend an afternoon of just window shopping.
HAUPTSTRASSE - MAIN STREET
by LoriPori
Normally crowded with folks walking along the HAUPTSTRASSE or Main Street. Many shops, cafe's and restaurants can be found here, including the Hard Rock Cafe' on Hauptstrasse 142. Main Street stretches from the Bismarckplatz across the Old Town to the Karlstor. Tried to look around the street more, but had to keep up with Jessica and the VT group. What I saw though was quite exciting and it was so nice that it was strictly a pedestrian area.
Great place to visit

The old town of Heidelberg is just so interesting and fun to explore! Lots of wonderful architecture, nice shopping facilities, lively bars and restaurants - and of course the spectacular castle!
. Climbing the tower of the cathedral with my husband, showing Dave (shdw100) and his wife around, passing my audiotherapy exam and being able to donate bone marrow at the Heidelberg hospital!
Shopping

Typically, stores close around noon (12 or 12:30) and reopen about two hours later. Stores often close at 6:00 or 6:30 in the evening. On Saturday, most shops will close between noon and 1 pm. Just about everything is closed on Sunday. The exceptions to these hours are gas stations, restaurants and cafes, some of the very touristy shops.
take the train out
by marakusch
JUST take the cheap and regularly running train along the NECKAR river. It brings you along the river for about an hour... you will pass more than 6 castles and stuff...but you have to get out of train and walk a bit...
BUT if you don't want to see a single Tourist...you better go and bring home impressions and excitement....
JUST DO IT
