Village in the sky
Our journey begins in Ijmuiden,a ferry port in the Netherlands, where myself and three friends were beginning a ten day motorcycle holiday in the southern Black forest of Germany.Destination for that day was Hochenschwand,a small village some 10 miles from the Swiss border, and over 500 miles from I jmuiden.
The weather is scorching, around 35 degrees but we make good progress, and after a stop at the Hockenheim race circuit for photos,we are back on track.Reaching Frieburg, spirits are high as we are only 40 miles from the hotel and a long cool beer.Suddenly, crash bang wallop!,one of the guys is sliding along the road, having braked a little too severely. This is not good,we pick him and the bike up,and with the help of a young guy who phones the police ,and an ambulance, thankfully this was not needed.A recovery truck is summoned and off we go.Unfortunately,we didnt realise the truck was being driven by Michael Schumacher, and after a particularly tight hairpin bend, which must have seen the truck pulling about 9 G's,the crashed bike decided it had had enough, and fell off the truck!
We eventually reached Hochenschwand without any further dramas, apart from the driver relieving us of 400 Euros, which was a damn cheek to be honest, however he admitted liability for the damage he caused to the bike.Walking into the hotel we are met by the night barman/porter Berti. He is a good guy and helps us out a lot. After a few much needed beers we call it a day,and head for our rooms.
The Hotel Alpenpanorama,is a three star, hotel with spa facilities, pool, sauna etc.Everything is very clean, and very reasonably priced. The staff speak excellent English, and are friendly and very helpful. The location, with views of Switzerland to the south ,is stunning, and is such a tranquil, relaxing spot. The village is immaculately clean, and must have the friendliest people anywhere. We were amazed at the amount of people who just came up to say hello, and have a chat with us.
As it was so hot, there was a couple of days were we couldnt be bothered going out on the bikes,so we hiked here and there. The area is absolutely beautiful as has been well documented. All in all cant wait to go back, whicjh will be July 07.Bring it on!
